I don't know if the story's true or not. I don't know if the author is alive or dead or cured. I think the girl in the tale is just schizophrenic. I felt pity for the character, but she kept claiming she was ugly. If her picture is an indication, she was not unattractive. She just had a lot of issues, and the things she imagined were disgusting and pornographic. As we say in the south, "Bless her heart."

I chose this book as it piqued my interest on several levels as I have been a student of the occult for many years, a counselor, as well as having Dissociative Identity Disorder, formerly known as Multiple Personality Disorder; and was interested in the potential overlap. However, the author really did not display traditional symptoms of DID, she fell more into the schizophrenia category, which was mentioned several times through out the story. Titles such as this simply perpetuate the common misconceptions of having multiple personalities.

As a story potentially based on supernatural happenings, it was very weak and not very engaging. Even with a background that should have made the book enjoyable regardless of the true source of the occurrence; I found myself bored and honestly had to force myself to finish the book. I had thought that at the end there would be some type of medical commentary on what had occurred rather than it just stopping short as it did.

All in all when you take a misleading title and pair it up with a tepid story you end up with a disappointing read and waste of time.

Being raised Catholic I chose this book with some fear of what I would be reading. I have always been a spiritual person and I have had great interest in the human psyche so I decided to read this book to weigh the two against eachother. Originally as I started reading this book I belived this girl was being possessed by the devil. Pretty scary to think about. But as I got further into the story you have to decide on your own whether she is possessed or she is just suffering from multiple personality disorder (MPD). I have to say that since this book was written like a diary (the author kept a diary of her experiences) I could not find an easy stopping point, which led me to finishing this book in one day. How you determine which seniaro is happening to Sophia will be how you read this book and what you believe. This book was really good and kept me interested threw out the whole story.
