I give it 5 STARS for the comic rendering and concept - nobody could have done it better.
I give 3 stars because it just doesn't come through for me as a graphic novel, and I'm sad that it isn't a movie instead that I could watch... and in the end, I'm not likely to come back to it and read it again or recommend it. you know?
I don't really feel bad saying it would be a better movie ... because that's what it was written for!! hah!
This is a profound and surreal fairytale. When read this book the feel you will experience is comparable with the sensation of see a Tim Burton's or Terry Gilliam's movie, or like read a Neil Gaiman's tale.
About the art of "Tale of Sand", everything is outstanding. It's something between J.H.William III, Cliff Chiang and Moebius (!). Characters, scenarios, diagramation, colors, everything works as they should. Is a true banquet for the eyes.
So, definitely you should give a chance for this one ... you have a huge chance of regret if you not read it.
If you are in anyway a fan of great minds coming together to create an intriguing and mystifying project then look no further...Tale of Sand is a wonderful collaboration and all those involved in making this project happen have my thanks for bringing this to my wife and I's collection.
I cannot recommend this book more highly to anyone, whether you're into graphic novels or not. The story telling is AMAZING. It's all pretty surreal and ridiculous, sometimes confusing, but that makes the experience all the more dreamlike and fantastical.
The crazy thing is, the script calls for minuscule amounts of dialogue, which for so many stories, carries the plot. But in this book, the skillfulness of the illustrator to express the plot and create story flow is staggering. The only reason there are confusing parts is because that is what the script called for, it was on purpose. This book is beautiful, and even without muppets, it carries the quality of storytelling you can expect from Henson.

This screenplay was never made into a film for a reason: it's not very good.Read more
