Editorial Reviews

This 30-minute horror/fantasy anthology series follows in the vein of The Twilight Zone. Each week presents another standalone story of horror fantasy, and/or science fiction. Some episodes are gruesome, a few are of a lighter comedic style. Like many such shows, Tales... adapted the work of famous genre authors of the period such as Harlan Ellison, Stephen King, and Clive Barker. Many episodes also featured veteran actors of the 40's and 50's that saw very little work in their later years.

Tales From The Darkside, is one of the best series from the 1980's, especially the second season. I thought out of all the seasons, the second is the best, I notice when the SyFy channel carries it they usually air the ones from the second season, I don't know if it's just ransomly done, or if it's planned but before I purchased the DVD's I would try to catch the SyFy airing; because I love the series so much. I thought the DVD's were done well considering it's an old series, the DVD's were clear, cut well, and the layout is great.

Thank You,

I am greatly in debt to this show, Tales From The Darkside. This is one of the shows that turned me into a weirdo early in life.
Literally one of my very first memories of life is watching this very season of Tales From The Darkside on tv when I was 4 years old. It terrified me but I loved it. I never forgot about it. Later when I was about 18 or so I saw that some of the episodes had been released on volumes on vhs, I bought some of those and watched them. About 10 years after that they were all released on dvd and I bought all those too.

This is horror done right, and not just horror either, WEIRDNESS And INSANITY also.

This season of Tales From The Darkside has some of the Best episodes of the series. I'm not going to spoil any of the episode plots, I'm just going to say that if you like short stories that are weird, dark, insane, and original than you HAVE TO watch Tales From The Darkside, Period.

Not as good as season 1. There are alot more religious stories on season 2. Now this wouldn't be bad except for the fact that it is also way more campy/cheesy aswell. Still its tales from the darkside

I loved watching Tales From the Darkside when I was little. Hearing the intro used to creep me out. Some of the episodes seem a little bit dated, but that's the way things were back in the 1980's. The only thing that would have made the DVD collection even better would have been to add some special features on the episodes. It would have been great if they added commentary from the guest stars or directors. They should have added the bumpers that they used to play (just before & after commercials). All-in-all, not a bad collection. If you like horror anthology TV series like Twilight Zone, The Outer Limits, or Tales From the Crypt, then Tales From the Darkside is for you.

I love Tales From The Darkside. It's a little before my time but I grew up watching reruns and now the SyFy channel has brought it back. Thank God for that! But what's even better is that they're releasing it on DVD! If you love The Twilight Zone, The Outer Limits, Night Gallery...etc. You LOVE Tales From The Darkside. And season 2 is just as eerie, creepy and awesome. Since I was a kid and even now, hearing the theme song gives me chills. It's worth every penny. Believe me. :)

I love everything about these anthology series from the 80s. It would be awesome if there were more! Although campy at times, and rarely if ever actually scary, these tales are none the less entertaining.

Of all the seasons of Tales from the Darkside, this is the only season where a few episodes fall flat for me. That said, "Halloween Candy" is an amazing episode. "The Satanic Piano" is pretty fun and I enjoy the visuals, and "The Devil's Advocate" has that comedy-horror admixture that makes so much of this series great. "Monsters in My Room" is a lot of fun, and stars Seth Green.

This season, despite the few hiccoughs, is still mostly epic and obviously a must have for fans of the series.

So why would I be giving this item 5 stars?

Because of two of the episodes! "Ring Around The Redhead" is a delightful fantasy. And "Distant Signals" is a perfect gem. I enjoyed the 23 minutes of this show more than I did most full SF movies - it would rank in MY top 10, despite being so brief.
