Recent culinary school graduate Tom Stockton earns some extra money giving out cooking advice at the Talk Turkey hotline. Who knew a call to one of those turkey hotlines that are hyped around Thanksgiving could lead to romance? Carson has just moved to Chicago, not even unpacked properly yet and he promises his mother to cook a Christmas dinner since he can't be home with the family. When Tom answered the turkey hotline that day, he had no idea the voice on the other end would be life-changing.

Bru Baker's Talk Turkey was originally published as part of Dreamspinner's annual Advent Calendar in 2015 but somehow escaped my reading until now. Personally, as someone who has cooked more Thanksgiving turkeys than I care to remember, I could never understand how so many people have no clue how to do so but then I remember my first one was under the watchful eye of my grandmother and my mom was only a phone call away. Miss Baker takes an average holiday tradition that many partake in and gives it a creative spin that leaves you laughing, smiling, and rooting for Carson. I was rooting for Tom as well and for the pair to unite but Talk Turkey is basically Carson's journey of first time holiday cooking and you can't help but want to wrap him in bubblewrap and say "let me do it for you".

Talk Turkey is a wonderful holiday novella that makes a great appetizer for the season. Whether you read it now or in the middle of a summer heatwave will make no difference because it has everything, well its pretty light on drama but its definitely high on fun, flirty romance, comedy, and plenty of heart.

Carson is new to Chicago. He hasn’t made any friends yet at work but he promised his mother he’d make a turkey for his Christmas dinner. Lost in the supermarket because of the overwhelming choices of turkeys, Carson calls the turkey hotline for advice.
Cute jokes ensue when Tom answers and helps answer the turkey questions.

Talk Turkey by Bru Baker was probably one of the funniest I read among the DSP Advent Calendar stories I read this year. And surely the most developed in the MCs’ relationship. If you’re looking for an original plot, give this Holiday short a chance, you won’t be disappointed.

Carson has just moved to Chicago and in his first Christmas alone, away from his family, he promises his mum he is still going to celebrate with someone and cooking. The only little problem? He knows nothing about gravy, pot and what size of turkey to buy. Luckly he can count on Tom to save him from a frozen turkey called Terry.

It was a great pleasure to read this story, it was engaging and hilarious, I laughed so much. A lovely surprise by an author I’m soon going to read more about.

Carson picked the worst time to take a new job and move to Chicago. Now it’s right before Christmas and he’s left alone, promising his mother he’ll make a turkey himself. Unfortunately, Carson has no idea how to cook a turkey so when he calls a turkey hotline, he talks to Tom who’s more than willing to help. Tom took a job on the Talk Turkey hotline to make a little extra money but when Carson calls in, he can’t help but feel a connection. As the two get closer, Carson has no idea the great guy he’s talking to is in Chicago as well until something happens that causes Tom to run to Carson’s rescue.

This story was so cute! I loved that Carson was so clueless when it came to cooking a turkey and had no idea what Tom was talking about when he was going over what Carson would need. I also loved that they had such hilarious conversations. Tom was a little bit of a mystery but I loved how patient and funny he was with Carson.

This was such a great story but I wanted it to be so much longer! I would have liked to see more of them after they get together, to see how they work out being face to face instead of just a voice over the phone.

In the end, this was a great little Christmas story. I loved how adorable the characters were and how much fun it was. I wish it had been longer but I hope this won’t be the last we see of these two! Definitely recommended for those looking for something quick, fun and cute!
