This book helped me realize that communication is more about observing and listening (the right way) then it is about speaking. The best part is that Dr. Neha has outlined practical tools to improve one’s communication rather than just speaking in theory. I have taken quite a few corporate communication training courses but the tools in Talk Rx surpass anything that I have ever been taught before. I have enjoyed reading Talk RX and it has helped me improve my communication and health, I only wish someone had given me this knowledge before.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking to improve their quality of life.
The art of communication is such a vast topic. Dr. Neha succeeded to putting together the basics, the fundamentals to get you off to a great start. Even if it will be your first and last book on communications, it will forever change how you related to people, listen them, interpret your thoughts, etc.
Summaries and exercises at the end of each chapter are very important. It will be a good idea to read the book first and then go back Chapter by Chapter and do the exercises, write in the journal. I take this book as one of those that you have to study because it makes you to study yourself. And studying yourself is a life-long process, in my opinion. I have had several a-ha! moments.
I like the part when she speaks about emotions and how we try to separate them in our lives. It makes so much sense to be in tune with emotions and being able to process them in the right way.Society has to understand and accept the fact that we can't be whole and healthy if we don't let out emotions show because of social, religious, ethnic values. If we suppress them for too long, they lead to serious health issues.
I work in the corporate environment where there is still the stereotype of "leaving your emotions behind the office door" holds true. I hope things will start changing in the opposite direction soon. Love, LOVE, Love this book.
Also we can't always get what we want, and we can't control others but we can let them know the terms of discussion. Or if 1) your condo neighbor won't move her car and 2) you're late for the third time(there are scofflaws or folks who don't even know what laws they agreed to follow) and 3) you have warned him/her and cautioned sufficiently & you were heard, do call to have the car towed.
This book brought me an awareness I needed and taught me basics I wish I had been taught in 5th grade. I am thankful for the clarity this book brings and the practical skills I can use to improve my communication, relationships & life instantly. Love never seemed so attainable. I bought one for everyone I care about, its a must read.
