The entire family had a lot of fun playing with this game, but after 2 weeks of use few of the buttons stop working.I don't recommend to pay $50 for a toy that is going to last for just 2 weeks.

The talking chess trainer is a good first chess board although it doesn't say much at all . You would be better off buying the regular chess trainer for less money and skip the 3 , or so, phrases that it says. But if you want a long term game that will grow with you (if you plan to study) i would shop around some . Novag has a good line of machines with wooden pieces and stronger programming and faster response time. Although Saitek and Mephisto have that too.

Good idea but doesn't seem very durable. Must make sure you press down the pieces hard to make contact with the board sensors. Think this is for 13 and above crowd.

I purchased this when my daughter asked me to teach her how to play chess. This is ideal for a beginner having the serious desire to quickly develop local-chess-club tournament proficiency. It's not the fastest-response processor but nevertheless a good bang for the buck. A few things I like include: entry through intermediate training levels; good voice & tone prompts; pieces store in the board's rear compartment. Some things I'd like to see improved are: a faster processor; an impact resistance board/housing, more durable pieces.

Well I bought this new in ~07.
It's plays and awesome game of entertaining chess.
I've been using almost weekly so it's durable enough if you take care of it.
The has A1 through C8 levels.
Anything above C1 or C3 can take 5 minutes for a move.
I like to play kind of fast so a faster processor would make it more challenging.
Perfect to learn chess on.
The software is better than say Chess titans that comes with Win 7 but anything below C mode it tends to go after check at the expense of power pieces.
It's very portable everything fits in base so I take it to work sometimes and play during lunch.
