Imagine being aboard the world's largest and most advanced sailing ship, that's totally reliant on satellite navigation, communication, fuel and cutting edge technology in the year 1845! A year where there's no such thing as fuel; satellites haven't been invented and radio communications does not exist. Add to this, the crew is made up of teenagers aged from sixteen to nineteen, who have little or no sailing experience. This is the backdrop to my novel 'Tall Ship Magic'.
A situation, made even better when the sailing ship 'Magic' begins to jump time, back towards the present. Each year, each situation, tax the crew to the limit as they pass through the first and second world wars, with a ship that demands respect, but must also be their home, their future, because without it they will be lost in time.
For me, this was made even more fascinating researching just what was available in which years. More importantly how much technology has advanced, and when, to make sailing, particularly with navigation far safer than sailors, only a hundred and fifty years ago, had to contend with.
I hope you enjoy the book as much as I did writingit?
