EXTREME FIRE DANGER!!! DO NOT USE.

Purchased this to use with our 5th wheel RV. That was in September, Now it is June and my wife noticed the smell of burning plastic while outside. That is when I noticed that it was coming from the box. I shut off the circuit breaker and opened the box when I noticed this (Photos). If we wouldn't have been home at the time we could have lost everything.

Other items worth note.

Not recommended for use with RV's. Unable to close the door when the RV is plugged in. .

Did a lot of research on 50amp RV receptacles because we live close to the beach and need something that's heavy duty. This turned out to be perfect. I'm an electrician who cranks down hard on the lugs (screws in the back of the receptacle) but these didn't strip out like the cheaper variants. Metal housing or case is thick and sturdy, and has plenty of holes to mount on the wall. Lid is a bit hard to remove for installation, but that's good for us because the wind blows so hard on the coast.

When I was selecting my car charger, I decided on one that wasn't hard-wired, so I could use it via my dryer outlet before the ultimate permanent location was determined. I have no garage, so the final installation would have to be on the side of my house, exposed to the weather. 240v is scary stuff, combine that with weather, and it's terrifying! My electrician was very please with my selection of the Talon LGP1S 50-Amp weatherproof outlet. So am I! I've charged my Chevy Volt in some pretty nasty thunderstorms, and I'm still here!

I just received this and it is missing 2 of the lugs inside the plug. Also the outlet is only held in place by the small rivet for the ground. Even if it had the other 2 lugs if I tried to plug in to it it would break. The plastic on the ground lug is mostly missing. I need this tomorrow and will have to drive 35 miles round trip to go to Home depot and get the entire outlet So it looks like I paid $for a rainproof enclosure

This Large receptacle box is ideal to set up a RV hookup at the side of your house. Regular 12 or 20 amp outlets are easily overwhelmed by the draw of an RV with its countless fixtures like charger, fridge, water pumps, AC and so on. We had the electrician run a 50 amp wire and use this box for our hookup. Its pretty much like the one you would find at campgrounds. The only difference is this casing has only space for the receptacle, not for fuses. So you typically want to run power from an existing fuse box with its dedicated breaker. I really love it. Now I can make the RV my regular guesthouse since everything will work at the same time and I don't have to fear that the receptacle overheats and I have constantly have to reset the breaker.

For what this was intended, this is a very well made unit. I wasn't thinking straight when I bought it as I was planning to use it as an inlet for my 11K watt generator. This would have entailed making a suicide cable with 2 male plugs on each end. No thank you. I was unable to find a male 50A version of this receptacle for generator inlet usage. What I did find was a 50A Twist Lock style male receptacle mounted plug with a plastic enclosure and a hinged lid.

Perfect for charging Tesla

After searching around local big-box stores and electrical wholesalers, this was the most cost-effective solution to setting up a charging station at home without buying the Proprietary charger (for $675) for my Tesla M3. Buying a standard stove outlet and a NEMA 14-50 adapter was the solution but there are varying levels of quality out there from $6 to $115. The Talon outdoor receptacle gave me both a high-quality receptacle and weatherproof box for $65. It has knockouts on both sides and the bottom for any mounting scenario. Mine is mounted in my car port so it will get wet during heavy rains. Some have complained about quality control issues with these units. Mine arrived with one minor scratch on it, but was otherwise fine for what I needed.

I bought the receptacle to use with a Level 2 electric car charger. I installed it on the side of my garage and it seems to be very strong and durable. It has a couple of holes so the cover can be locked in the closed position to prevent theft. The charger has 4 mounting holes, so it is very sturdy when installed. I added caulking to the top and sides to keep water out. The receptacle comes with a wire connected from the case to the receptacle ground and a terminal block for connecting the ground wire from the cable, but I connected the cable ground directly to the receptacle along with the case ground wire. I was slightly disappointed because the cover had a scratch on it, so the receptacle I received was probably a return.
