What really bothers me about this product, and most products in general, is the advertisement on the box. You would SWEAR these were Made in the USA with their home grown message about being a family business since the 1930's, representing the true spirit of the American Slipper Tradition! (whatever that is). Needless to say, I was very disappointed looking at the corner of the box to see "Made in China" - That is NOT the spirit of ANY American Tradition, whatsoever.
Besides my beef with their advertising - several other, well known quality brands are available in this price range (also made in China) but at least you have the satisfaction of having that brand recognition and known quality.
Time will tell how these hold up - if I don't return and update this review, then they're performing as expected.
See attached pic for their shameful advertisement.
I have previously skimped on cheaper slippers online but they always seemed to either wear down the lining too quickly or the stitching around the toe box would blow-out. After a winter of use these held up and are ready for a new season of use.
When ordering be aware that they do some a bit snug if you wear thick socks with them. You might want to go 1/2 a size larger.
However, for as great as they are, if your feet either sweat or smell I would not recommend these. For anyone else I would recommend in a heartbeat.
Soles wear very quickly. For about $10 dollars more look at other alternatives from LL Bean or Lands End also available at Amazon.
I'm looking online at some Native American websites. Some of those are much more expensive and are fancier, but there are some slippers that are competitively priced with these and those at LL Bean and LandsEnd, very well made in the traditional way, but also combined with Vibram soles.
(I have purchased hundreds of products at Amazon. com. I have never received a product at a free or discounted price, as of this date. I write reviews to help others decide whether a product suits their needs as hundreds of reviewers on Amazon.com have done for me.
Criteria for my reviews:
5 stars- The item matches the photo and description of the item, and fulfills the functions it was advertised to fulfill.
I remove one star each for 1) items not fulfilling their intended purpose and/or 2) items being significantly deficient in one or more areas.)
Update/Edit: After having these slippers for only a month, the leather "thongs" threaded thru the slippers like top siders/boat shoes and coming out the front to be tied like shoe strings broke on one of the slippers.
About a month later the same thing happened on the other one. It is impossible to thread another set of strings thru the slippers. So now, when I wear them, they flop around on my feet. Very disappointed.
