As an American who lived in Iran for two years before the 1979 Revolution, I found this film to be a warm and wonderful excursion back to the country. The characters are well-developed, representing a balanced view of the Iranian people, from poor to rich, and how they cope with the challenges of living under the current conservative regime. Always entrepreneurial, observant of social etiquette in varying degrees and ultimately loving and protective of one another despite their conflicts, the film offers an honest and humorous portrayal of the Iranian people as I remember them. "Tambourine" is a delightful, farcical romp through the lives of its characters over the course of one day in Tehran.
