The plot twists alone kept me reading, but there's another great aspect to this book, which is that almost every character -- even the arrogant rich kids and their parents -- has redeeming qualities, which are creatively and usually comically delineated. And the good guys, especially Kate, have unique talents but also flaws that make them human. They include a clueless savant who has answers when everybody else is perplexed, a dress-alike couple whose gender is impossible to determine, and Kate's Shakespeare-spouting, undersized best friend who falls in love with Drew's younger sister.
Finally, the writing itself, rich with humor and dazzling with metaphor. Teenagers and Shakespeare fans will love this book, and so will everybody else.
Loved the dynamics and the little references both to The Taming of the Shrew (included at the end of the book!) and to other works of Shakespeare.
The Taming of the Drew was very cleverly written and I got a few chuckles when I read it; what prevented me from giving it a five star rating is partly the in-your-face aspect with Shakespeare but mostly was that the plot in many areas was a little too far-fetched for me.
I am looking forward to more from Jan Gurley.
