I LOVE a good ‘steamy’ romance’ especially during that time frame. Lol ;)
“Lady Lydia’s father passes away & his friend, Lord Thomas Marcus was who he chose to be ‘Lydia’s guardian if anything was to have happened to him... ‘ Lydia just shy 5month of her 19th birthday... and extremely - sheltered, spoiled & innocent.. When arriving to Lord Thomas, she is pretty defiant (as the book so calls her) while Thomas is older, wiser, more worldly ‘ the two fall in love & oh there is much steamy scenes, angst, twists and even ‘plotting for their demise..’ i am looking forward to bk 2
Lydia was, to me, a very well-written character and how I envisioned a woman of that era would act. She has a constant internal battle over how scandalized she should be with Lord Markham's means of behavioral corrections, yet she can't seem to get enough of it and enjoys it. Lord Markham was an alpha male with a caring side and delivered domestic discipline when necessary. Those scenes, though! Whoa, this is one H.O.T. book!!! Ms. Brandon has become one of my new favorite authors of domestic discipline books.
I really enjoyed this book, but I removed a star because Lord Markham had a short-coming that bothered me in that he was, at times, contradictory. The first occurrence of this is when Lord Markham attempts anal play. Lydia refuses, not once, but a couple times, and Lord Markham threatens to tie her up and do it anyway. Shortly thereafter, in another scene, Thomas won't kiss Lydia without her consent. That one had me scratching my head. The second instance is when Thomas tells Lydia that he'll punish her in front of company, but after learning that another character got information about their private life out of Lydia, he tells her that what transpires between them is a private affair. Given that said other character is one that Thomas was all-too willing to punish Lydia in front of, I found this rather odd.
Overall, this book is one that I would definitely recommend and though I received an ARC, I purchased it, too. Be warned, however, that the ending was somewhat of a cliffhanger, but I don't mind, because I'll be looking for the next one in the series!
If you want great historical spanking novels check out golden angel 's books and also Annabelle Joseph.
This isn't anywhere close to a romance, it's straight prevertion. First of all in this time period there is no way that a male would be allowed to have a female ward live with him without a female family member or chaperone present, his mother would have been expected to have the girl stay with her or move into the same house for propriety as it would've destructive in the extreme . This book felt so forced about everything , the attraction, the reasons for punishments , the relationships all of it. Usually i could finish a book even if it's not up to par. But this book just doesn't sit well with me , i couldn't find anything about it that i like . The "hero" of this story uses any excuse to punish his ward, he also is very manipulating. She is obviously not only very immature but also very innocent, the hole book just gives me the creeps, it like I'm reading about the molestation of a child.😠😠😠😖😟.If I could rate a negative zero i would do so happily.
Lady Lydia is sent to Markham hall after her father dies. Her guardian is Lord thomas Markham a man who likes to run his household with a firm hand..However once lydia is settled in the household she decided to explore, but she sees something she isnt meant to see, and lying about it does her no good, cause once thomas Markham finds out guess what she gets. The relation ship between Lord Markham and lydia is beautiful.Follow this story and you will be enchanted with it as well...
I recieved a advanced copy of this in return for an honest review.
I enjoyed the juxtaposition of the staid times with the wild antics of the main characters. Lord Thomas has wild tastes but is ultimately a caring man and does care for his ward. Lady Lydia is fascinated by the world to which Lord Thomas opens her up. The Pembrokes are an entertaining couple too. This book had me hot under the collar on many occasions. The awakening of Lydia to this new world was described perfectly and the reader’s interest piqued with hers.
This is a bodice-ripping, bottom-slapping romance that is definitely only suitable for over 18s. A different version of the BDSM contemporary romances which have flooded the market, in my opinion, setting it in a different century gave it something to make it stand out.
