"Quinn's vivid second Highland Heirs novel, set in 18th-century Scotland, captures some of the most popular elements of historical romance: a beautiful stowaway, a dangerously sexy pirate, and the search for an elusive treasure. ...Quinn's steamy and well constructed romance will appeal to fans and newcomers alike."

"Quinn captures the aura of the Highlands and its people as well. Emmaline aka Emma is the blind sister of the owner of the brothel that Malcolm and his brother stop at. Malcolm convinces Harry (Emma's brother) to let her dog come in from the storm and immediately wins the admiration of Emma.
While at the brothel a fight breaks out and a man is killed. Later the man's family returns for revenge and Malcolm and his brother Cailean are gravely injured. Emma is called upon to save them.
While recuperating from his injury Malcolm begins to fall for Emma. For the first time in his life his looks and dimples are of no use to him. Emma isn't interested in being one more woman in a long line - including many of the women in the brothel.
This book has so much going on - it is almost impossible to know who is friend or foe in this book - which makes for a very interesting read! There are fights, abductions, lies, betrayals, heartbreak, steamy love scenes, true love and very sweet happy ending.
I loved that Ms. Quinn didn't make Emma seem weak because of her disability - if anything, she was one of the strongest most self sufficient heroines I have ever read!
My only complaint with the book was that the blurb for this book was misleading - it says that the only lass Malcolm ever trusted left him with more scars than a battlefield - what lass? She is never referenced - Malcolm isn't against love - he has just never felt it and assumes that he is not capable of love. Needless to say this book was not what I was expecting based on the book description. Which isn't really a bad thing - I am not overly fond of "once burned forever mistrusting" heroes and was very happy to realize that was not the case with Malcolm.
I would happily recommend this book and anxiously await Cailean's book!
