Product Description

Color: Black

The Velocity 6x - Compact Sling Pack is a compact sling pack designed for a compact digital or film SLR with a zoom lens attached up to 4" long, another small lens or flash and accessories. The sling pack design is versatile to carry like a backpack, but can be easily accessed by sliding the pack around to the front.

The secure zippered Quick Flip Top opens away from the body for fast and convenient access to camera gear. A well-padded sling strap comfortably distributes the weight, but need not be removed to quickly access photo equipment. The front pocket has organizer pockets inside to keep a mobile phone, PDA or photo accessories within easy reach.

It also features Tamrac's U.S. - patented Memory & Battery Management System that uses red flags to identify available memory cards from ones that are used up. A pocket inside the lid stores filters and lens caps. Add optional Tamrac accessories using the attachment slots for our Modular Accessory System (M.A.S.) products to customize this sling pack.

Accommodates: Compact digital or film SLR with zoom lens attached (up to 4.0" long), small lens or flash, and accessories.

The Tamrac is a perfect fit for my Digital SLR camera.

It fits the camera with a 18-55m lens as well as when the 55-200m lens is attached.

There's not really room for storing lenses, but you could store extra batteries and a charger.

The bag is easy to open and the top flap pivots away from you when opening.

It has some waterproof coating on it

It would be nice to fit an extra lens in there, but really when I'm out an about, I choose the lens I'm going to use for the excursion.

The bag is very well padded compared to the other options I saw.

I purchased this bag thinking it would be perfect for my new DSLR. Unfortunately, my entry-level Canon XTi fits too snug in this bag...and for those of you familiar with this camera, you know that this is the smallest DSLR out there along with the D40/D40X . The top zipper was holding on for dear life when I tried to squeeze the camera strap in there with the camera.

I quickly returned this bag and upgraded to the Velocity 7x 5767 instead. The 7x will also give me a chance to expand my lens collection being able to hold a 50 prime and basic telephoto lens.

I purchased the Tamrac Velocity 6x for a month long road trip to visit the Painted Desert, Petrified Forest, Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, Mesas Verde, etc. It worked out real well as a sling camera bag for a Nikon D5000 with strap, two lenses (18-55m & 55-200m), lens hood, extra batteries, lens cleaner, remote, a few small snacks and a Beretta Tomcat with an extra magazine. While hiking I wore the bag on my back. To remove the camera all you do is slide the bag around to your front. The top opens away from you to permit easy access. I also purchased the overpriced MAS water bottle holder and was glad I did. I swapped out the cheap water bottle that came with the holder for something better. See the Tamrac MAS bottle holder reviews for suggestions.

The 7x, the next larger size sling bag, has a waist belt. The 6x doesn't and doesn't need it. My only complaint is the shoulder strap could use additional padding. I have since added a pad designed for an automobile seat belt that I had previously used as a guitar strap pad.

I just bought a Nikon D40 with a telephoto lens. The bag fit perfect and while it's a tight fit for the camera plus an extra filter and lens hood, it does all fit. It's probably good to be a tight fit so that the camera doesn't move around much. The front pocket is nice for small things too, but no space in the bag for the battery charger and cable. Good quality bag that should last.

I purchased this bag for my Canon EOS 40D. Im sure a lot of people would not have made that decision. The body of the 40D is fairly wide. Upon, first fitting the 40D, the sides were a bit tight, which is what I wanted for the most part. After fitting the 40D with a 28-105mm 3.5-4.5, I still had space for an additional lens (about the same size) and the battery charger. In the front zipper pocket, I was able to fit memory card, and some filters. The strap makes it extremely convenient for easy access. If you want to bring the essentials, I say go for this bag. You might want to look at the other models for telephoto lenses or additional lenses.

There are multiple versions of this product - with the Velocity lineup having lots of 1" increments (6x = 6" lenses; 7x=7" lenses, 8x=8", 9x=9" and so on). I first bought the Velocity 6x, and used it on a 2 week Europe trip with a Nikon D5300 & 18-200mm lens. I started out carrying a separate backpack for other supplies during the various day-long walking/bus trips, but quickly discarded the backpack, and was able to put the most essential items (cell phone recharger, sunscreen, credit cards/cash, etc.) into the Velocity 6x - everything I needed, all in one tiny sling pack!

I did end up wishing I had just a BIT more space though, since the 6x was quite tight on space .... so as soon as I returned, I bought the 7x, thinking it would be just 1" larger, which would be perfect. However, I soon found that the 7x, is MUCH larger than the 6x, despite its claiming to hold just a 1" larger lens In fact, I'd say the 7x is over 30% larger than the 6x, making the 6x about 2/3 the size of the 7x.

I've decided to keep BOTH my Velocity 6x & 7x, and swap between them based on the length of the trip I'll be taking. The 6x has a very tight fit (regardless of lens size, there's just not much extra space, though you can fit a small flash and lens cleaner, etc.), with minimal space for additional gadgets, while the 7x has plenty of extra room - enough for additional lenses, phone accessories, electronics, etc. I do wish the 7x was smaller for my taste, but others will differ depending on exactly how much storage they need. The 7x is still smaller than a small backpack however, so still a great choice for those wanting to ditch the large backpacks and camera bags!

The quality on these bags is great - I've found no drawbacks, unlike other bags which always seems to lack enough small pockets and compartments to put things.

Choose whatever size you like - I love these bags!

About the marketing pictures, the first shows this pack being worn like a backpack. While you could wear the pack like this it's unlikely that you will because to do so requires the strap to be cinched up under your armpit pretty much and not nearly enough sling room to bring the pack around to a comfortable position to remove the camera in front. In the second marketing picture the girl has the pack slung around front to remove the camera. It's not obvious but the strap is let out quite a bit in this photograph compared to the one with the pack on the back. Again, while you could adjust the strap when you sling it forward this is going to slow things down quite a bit. That being said I still like the pack but the way I think you will wear it will be more like a shoulder bag except when you need to sling it high on your back, say for a short jog, in which case you'll hold the strap with one hand in order to keep the pack up high while you're moving and still be able to quickly sling it around to retrieve your camera for a quick shot.

I purchased this bag when I purchased a Nikon D-80 Digital SLR, a fairly compact camera, with a 18-135 Zoom Nikkor. With the lens hood removed the camera with lens attached fits well into the bag with enough room to lay in the (free) lowepro transporter shoulder strap on top. (The fit is very tight but possible with the hood on.) I plan to replace the shoulder strap with a Made Products hand grip soon. The lens hood is stored in one of the side spaces below the camera. A flash unit might fit along the other side (I don't have one currently to test). The flash memory carry pouch from the (free) Lowepro Transporter strap fit nicely on the carry handle of the bag.
