The 150-500mm F5-6.7 is TAMRON's first ultra-telephoto zoom lens for full-frame mirrorless cameras that reaches the 500mm focal length and when used on APS-C mirrorless format cameras, the zoom range is an approximate 225-750mm full-frame equivalent. Even when extended to the 500mm telephoto end, the lens is still compact enough for comfortable handheld shooting. This zoom lets users enjoy casual shooting with steady performance and high image quality in the ultra-telephoto realm where conventional wisdom once dictated a tripod. To support handheld shooting in the ultra-telephoto range, the 150-500mm is equipped with VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive), a linear motor focus mechanism that delivers excellent quietness and agile performance, and TAMRON's proprietary VC (Vibration Compensation) mechanism for high-level image stabilization. At the 150mm end, the lens offers an MOD of 23.6” for powerful and dramatic close-ups.

The 150-500mm F/5-6.7 Di III VC VXD (Model A057) zoom lens for Sony E-mount full-frame mirrorless cameras upends conventional wisdom for ultra-telephoto zoom lenses, with a very compact design and high image quality. The 150-500mm F5-6.7 achieves a 500mm focal length while retaining a compact size, with a length of just 209.6mm (8.3 in) and a maximum diameter of 93mm, enabling comfortable handheld shooting. The design places major emphasis on image quality. The optical construction features 25 elements in 16 groups and utilizes special lens elements and hybrid aspherical lens elements to control various potential aberrations such as chromatic aberrations. The 150-500mm F5-6.7 zoom is also equipped with a high-speed, high-precision linear motor focus mechanism VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) and VC (Vibration Compensation), ensuring that no photogenic moment is ever missed. Additionally, the lens has a MOD (Minimum Object Distance) of 0.6m (23.6 in) at the 150mm end and remarkable overall usability. The Arca-Swiss compatible tripod mount has strap attachment holes and there are various features to support outdoor shooting, including Moisture-Resistant Construction and Fluorine Coating. TAMRON pursued a compact size that allows handheld shooting while developing the 150-500mm F5-6.7. With a length of 209.6mm and maximum diameter of 93mm, the lens is astonishingly compact for a 500mm-class ultra-telephoto zoom lens. Even when extended to the 500mm telephoto end, the lens has a suppressed length of around 283mm. Another distinctive feature is that the arc of rotation of the zoom ring is small 75°which enables swift adjustment to the desired focal length with minimal movement.

This is a great lens for sports and wildlife pictures. I use this lens with my Sony a6400 and the combination takes great photographs. Autofocus is quick and responsive and the images are very sharp. I really like the added reach compared to my previous Sony 55-210 lens which didn't have enough reach to cover a whole football field. With the Tamron 150-500 I can definitely cover the whole field from a single spot and get good photos of the action at the other end of the field.

The only downsides to the lens is it's weight, which is a touch above average. I do not mind this as the lens uses metal throughout instead of flimsier plastic.

I was at a local camera store testing out different lenses and liked the size, weight and optics of the Tamron FE 15-600. They wanted too much for it so I shopped around and found this used one on eBay. It practically looked new so I tested it out and seemed to work good. Then I was in a situation where an owl was hiding behind brush and I had to switch to manual focus. I spun the ring one complete rotation and it went from 5m to 7m distance of focus…. After 2 complete spins I could barely get it to fine tune the owl in focus and I lost the shot. Then I saw a bald eagle and same thing, MF mode required the ring to be spun way too much to get it to change focus distance. I have a Sony A9 with 4 other lens, and Canon R6/R7 with 8 RF lenses and 6 EF lenses including some Tamrons. The only time I ran into this issue was with a defective EF35-350L lens.

The lost important thing for me is image quality and this provides it. It's sharp, especially at the longer end. I'm just back from a weekend shooting whales and this was an amazing lens. No distortion, no chromatic aberration, just sharp, good contrast, detailed images. And the price is right, so why not 5 stars?

The one downside is the weight. Even by wildlife lens standards this weighs a ton. When in the field for 4 or 5 hours that matters. It was unusable with a strap as the weight on the neck was intolerable. I hand held with a wrist strap and it was fine.
