Editorial Reviews

Review

"Independence Day meets Sliders. It's like the aliens from the 1950s are back, but this time they're terrifying. Non-stop action, an engaging cast, and a bonus twist that few debut books ever deliver: depth." -- Jefferson Smith, Immerse or Die reviewer and author of Brotherhood of Delinquents

From the Author

Several years ago, I wrote a two-thousand word short story about an alien invasion for some contest or other, called Once Upon the Dark Matter Highway. It was basically an extended joke with a punchline at the end. But almost everyone who read it asked, "So... what happens next?"

Although I hadn't had any intention of there being more, I found myself wondering the same thing. Where did these aliens come from? Why did they stop here? And most importantly: What would happen if the government found out about the little group that were taken and later returned?

That was when things began to take a more serious tone.

I've always been a fan of government coverup/conspiracy yarns. Capricorn One, Three Days of the Condor, and Firestarter are some of my all-time favorites. So when I began to contemplate a world trembling in the wake of a drive-by alien invasion, it seemed natural that the government would do anything to apprehend these people. Are they a threat? Monsters in human form, perhaps, or people impregnated with evil alien spawn? Do they have information that could help defend against a potential next wave?

I also like alternate universe/parallel timeline stories. And people with strange abilities. Tangential was my chance to roll all these good things into one relentless, page-turning thriller. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I did writing it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enter the Universe
By Scott Ellenwood on March 14, 2016
I first read this story as The Sagittarius Protocol, the working name when originally posted on Write On, and I was hooked.

So, cards on the table, I've become a fan of Mr. Hall. I just finished this book and can't WAIT for #2 & #3. Yes, there's a lot going on, some sections could be longer and others shorter, but you have to look at it as Book #1 of a SERIES. Yes, it's great as a stand-alone read, but Mr. Hall has set-up the universe, laid the groundwork and allowed us to visit. So now, fully primed to continue the story, I must unfortunately wait along with all his other fans for the next book.

I want to know more about the aliens, the seer in particular and the secrets they are hiding. I can't wait to see how Carter & the rest get on after the events of Tangential, but I'm particularly interested in the Seer & Traveller abilities. Can they find a way to travel to, and rescue, any of the people taken? Are new hazards on their way through the depths of space? Will Thop ever eat anything besides a ration bar?

I can't wait to find out.
