How To Use


Fasten Barrier Band Around Tree Fasten a Tanglefoot Barrier Band or similar waterproof paper or material around the tree trunk.	Apply Apply the Tree Tanglefoot Insect Barrier onto the banding material with a putty knife or disposable paddle to spread 3-inches by 1/16-inches.	Trap Insects Tree Tanglefoot Insect Barrier will trap crawling insects that walk across it. When sticky areas become covered with insects or debris you’ll want to remove the banding and repeat this process. Always remove bands at the end of the season.

Barrier for Gypsy Moth Catipillars

This was the year for gypsy moth for our area. We set up the Tanglefoot on 4 inch wide cloth bands around the trees in April. When the catipillars appeared, boy did this stuff work like a champ. The pile up of catipillars was amazing. There had to be a hundred below the bands. Now we're above and the trees were protected. I guessing that this size pail can protect 10 to 15 trees that have a three foot diameter.

This was ordered to help control canker worms, (moths). Application is a little time consuming, but it is worth the effort. Reviewing trees in the yard this winter and many of the trees have captured the little pest! FYI! Consumed about 1/2 of this container to cover 25 oak trees, average circumference, 4 feet.

Love this sticky stuff

This stuff is STICKY. I used it in my fruit trees that were infested with ants -- it was like magic! Those lol suckers could not cross it, and the trees came back to life in no time.
Keep in mind that for this to work, you need to make sure the ants have no other way of getting on your trees -- one of my trees had a bush under it so ants used its leaves to avoid the sticky stuff and still get on the tree.
I started wrapping paper tape around the tree and the spreading this stuff with a disposable knife. It was messy and ants still got through (went under the tape) so now I just apply it directly on the trunk of the tree. I will never be able to get rid of it (even after over w year, the stuff is still there) so be careful. You do need to reapply once Ina while as leaves and dust get stuck on it -- I've seen ants using leaves as bridges to crossing this barrier.

I've used it also in peppers, blueberries, and many other plants. It does not work in bushier plants like strawberries, blackberries, and tomatoes though.

Keeps the climbing bugs off my citrus!

This stuff works exactly as advertised. I use it to keep aphids, ants, mealy bugs, and caterpillars from climbing up into my potted citrus trees and causing havoc. This is a much better solution than anything else that I have tried. I used duct tape as the backing, and it has been working great.

Perfect for the natural gardener

I hate using chemicals, but recently planted a cherry tree in the back yard. The ants started to plant aphids almost immediately, and I had to do something. So I ordered this stuff, along with the recommended roll of paper tree wrap. At first, I had a little trouble figuring out how to get the tree wrap to stay around the tree. Then I finally gave up, grabbed some packing tape, and ran the packing tape through the center of the tree wrap all the way around the tree. I made sure it was very tight, and because the tree was young, I did not have to use anything to plug up holes that would be there in an older tree. Once the tree wrap was on, I used a plastic butter knife to put the tanglefoot on. I won't lie, the stuff is messy! But, I was extra careful while putting it on, and managed to get it all the way around the tree. I was worried it would not stay on the packing tape, but it did. It worked perfectly! The ants were ticked, and some of them were even stuck on the top part of the tree, so I just flicked them off. About half way through summer, I noticed that it was looking a little sad, so I grabbed the bucket, another plastic knife, and added more on. This had lasted until now. I am in the process of removing it now, as the season is over, and there's no reason to leave it on. I will be repeating this next year.

I also decided to try something else. I used toilet paper rolls and paper towel rolls to put in the ground with my seedling in the very center of the roll. I then put the goop on the paper roll to prevent bugs from crawling on to the plants. It worked perfect again. I did have to fix it half way through summer by adding more, and replacing some of the cardboard rolls that were destroyed from the sprinklers, but overall, it worked great. This was the first year that my corn did not get eaten by earwigs, and I actually have successful bell peppers!

I love this stuff, it is a little work, can get messy, but I do not have to use any nasty chemicals.

Shop Till I'm Broke

DEER FLIES HATE TANGLEFOOT

This seems to be unavailable in Canada so I had it shipped to a U.S. forwarding company for pick up.

DEER FLIES !! In my swampy neck of the woods in Eastern Ontario, deer flies are a huge problem and are attracted to blue things, like my recycling bin, blue wheelbarrow, and me, although I am not blue. Last year I taped a blue disposable cup to the top of my hat, smeared the cup with Tanglefoot (from the small tube that I had) and after 10 minutes outside, dozens of deer flies were plastered to the cup and not attacking me. From the MSDS I determined that I could possibly make my own from pine sap collected from trees, plus the other ingredients, but buying it in bulk was the more sane option. Tanglefoot seems to stay sticky forever and seems not to have a shelf life. The two 5 lb pails I bought should last me a lifetime.
My summer project is to hang a large blue item (smeared with Tanglefoot) to swing in the wind near where most of the deer flies are. Anything blue, plus movement draws them in like a magnet and I'm hoping to reduce their numbers. That it's only sold in small toothpaste tubes in Canada is a shame, it's such a great product.

No More Cucumber Beetles

I spend a lot of time and money on my home garden every year. And every year I have a lot of my hard work get destroyed by cucumber beetles and white flies. I've tried a lot of different things over the years. This year, after finding a video about a do-it-yourself fix, I bought Tanglefoot, some disposable yellow cups and hoped for the best. After attaching the cups to wooden stakes, I slathered the cups with Tanglefoot, put the stakes into the garden beds and waited. The next day I couldn't believe it! The cups were covered with those pesky bugs! It's waterproof, doesn't dry up and does a wonderful job catching bugs. It's very sticky and this size doesn't come with a brush. Wish I had known about this years ago!!

Stuff works good. I brush about 4" wide around the trunk of my trees and first time I have not had ant/aphid problems in 25 years. I brush a little on some packing tape, put it on my windows and inside flying bug are down 90%. A little goes a long way.
