I am as grateful to Christina Pluhar for this introduction to Marco Beasley and Lucilla Galeazzi as I was to Paul Simon for Ladysmith Black Mombasa and Los Lobos. Beasley and Galeazzi are great singers.

I also like this lively, inventive combination of "antique" music and "folk" music. It works just as well on L'Arpeggiata's recordings of Monteverdi and Landi.

In the past six months I have purchased everything I could find recorded by L'Arpeggiata, Marco Beasley and Lucilla Galeazzi. I would recommend them all -- especially, Los Impossibles.

This is a remarkable recording with a pulsing life to it that is so rare to hear on a recording. It's as if one is listening to a live concert! The singing is absolutely fantastic, in all senses of the word, and the instrumental band is so inventive and full of life and colors. What an amazing group of performers! How I would love to hear them do more together. And from one singer to others: Marco, Lucilla and Alfio are all "the real deal"...fabulous, natural singers!

This is the second disc I have purchased by L'Arpeggiata - a wonderfully alive and rhythmically coherent band using ancient instruments ( or copies). The focus of this disc - La Tarantella - is about a dance which has arisen in several Mediterranean countries around the myth that a spider's deadly bite can only be cured by dance. The musical examples chosen to illustrate this theme contain both rustic and classical songs set to some exquisite lyrics sung with passion and feeling. The sound quality being of SACD origin is not as spacious in the stereo sense as the first disc I purchased by L'Arpeggiata - 'Stefano Landi - Homo fugit velut umbra' on Alpha 020, but is very good in its own right.La Tarantella: Antidotum Tarantulae

Anyone who likes renaissance dance music will love this disk. The group is superb, and has a large repertoire on CD; although they have taken Europe by storm and tour constantly, their CDs are in very limited availability in the US.

Get this before it becomes unavailable as well; you won't be sorry.

I had recently seen a french movie with some of the music which is on this album and was enthralled with it. So I looked it up on Amazon, played the selections on line and decided that I very much wanted the CD. I am not disappointed. The music is old sounding but with an up-to-date flavor. Recommend to anyone who likes this genre of music.

I first heard this set as broadcast by Classic FM Australia. I went straight out and ordered my own copy from Amazon.
The history of La Tarantella, as explained in the broadcast, was compelling. And the text that came with this CD, lifts the veil from its ancient roots. The music is passionate and tears out of the soul.
I have become an accidental collector of recordings by Marco Beasley and have not been disappointed by any of his work.
The range of music presented by Christina Pluhar and L'Arpeggiata is epic, truly wonderful.
