I like reading series books, but this one is confusing. This book is the second in the series and has so many characters it's just too hard to keep them all straight. Right off the bat
The typical romance; the heroine doesn't want a bodyguard; a Delta Force soldier doesn't want to be saddled with bodyguard duty. When threats begin happening against Grace, she starts to take them seriously. Of course both feel an attraction. Of course the hero feels the heroine wouldn't be into a casual fling. Grace has issues with three previous relationships where the man dies. Therefore, of course, she's cursed. I loved reading how Caveman thought that was BS and tried to reason with her.
As with the first book in the series, the heroine refers to her lover by his military nickname. To me, this makes no sense. It just doesn't sound right to call out "Caveman" duri8ng sex. Couples should be more intimate and Max is his name.
I get that this book is only 2 of 4 in the series, so really hope the author can tie up so many loose ends. Ghost, from the first book, is in this one as well. Since the threats to his lover were never resolved in the first book, it's hard to fathom her lack of need for a bodyguard in this one. And, with the entire terrorist threat which is the basis of this series, certainly Grace's need for protection is also still needed.
This series is a fun read, but lacks realism.
Max Decker known as "Caveman" was hurt on duty. Before he can be sent back to his unit that is deployed he gets assigned to a small town.
First day assigned to the small town he goes to meet a local man. Before he can meet him, he see's Grace get thrown from her house. She is knocked out. He picks her up to take her to the local clinic. She wakes up in his truck, and demands to go to the sheriff office. After reporting the murder, she becomes the next target. Caveman became her personal body guard. The action is this book is intense. The chemistry between Caveman and Grace was sizzling. The only problem is Grace makes Caveman promise not to fall in love with her. Everyone she has ever loved has died. She thinks she is cursed. She was once married, and her husband died on her honeymoon. A guy she dated a few years later died from a farming accident.
The more they dodge bullets, the more the chemistry between them heats up. Great book. Loved it!
