***I received this title in advance in exchange for an honest review***
Can these two go undercover as lovers and still get the bad guys ?
Titans Jared and Sugar will be some help to the four man team made up of Drake , Nikita, Zoe and Altman. Drake's team is sent out to clean up another one of GSI's disasters. Can this team take down the bad guys and still have some R & R.
I am do hoping Buchman will give Zoe and Altman a story together.
When I realized that I wouldn't have time to meet my commitment to review it quickly enough I bought a copy as well.
When I heard that there would be a story with both the Buchman 5E Night Stalker characters and Harber's Titans I was completely unaware of the Titans backstory and had never read even one. While I waited for the new story to come out I began to read the books written by Harber. They are a bit different from Buchman's work but also quite good. I think Nikita the Seal expressed it best when she was explaining to Jared Westin the difference between the quiet way Seals get the job done versus the loud and obvious efforts of the military contractors of the Titan Group. The appearances of Titan characters in this story while entertaining did not really advance the story. If you'll pardon the expression they could have "phoned it in" without losing the thread of the tale.
The male lead in this story is a man with amazing gifts who rarely reaches his true potential without there being a prize he wants for himself. Whether what he wants is a place among the Night Stalkers secret helicopter group, or to win the heart and attention of the very first female SEAL to earn her way in through the Front Door: he has the brains and inherent talent, but can't be bothered unless he first decides he wants it for himself. I can only imagine what he might choose to become when his military career is no longer an option. War Lord of Mars? Master helicopter designer? The replacement for aging action movie star Tom Cruise?
I missed the flight sequences I usually find in a Night Stalkers book. I found myself wondering why two Night Stalkers were allowed to go undercover with SEALS when their helicopters were not strictly needed for that portion of the story. I still want to watch when Lou Altman meets his match.
The action felt a little lackadaisical at points which just didn't seem right given the promise of the 5E series and the epic start. I would still suggest reading the book. Buchman writes such exciting romances that what I would describe as a little boring from him is still much more exciting than many other writers in the genre. Overall the book is a fast (~2 hours), fun read that starts out awesome, gets a little boring in the middle, and ends quite well.
