I bought one of these for my 11-year-old sons new mp3 player. I was sure that if he didn't have a neck strap for it, he would be more likely to drop it / break it. Sure enough, the mp3 player seems to have survived a whole week without being broken, thanks to this Targus strap. However, be aware it has a small square metal part near the top which, if you're not careful, has the tendancy to scratch the surface of whatever you attach it to. Apparently this scratching can happen if you put the Targus strap, and the device it is attached to, in your pants pocket. The metal "clasp" is not in any way rough or sharp, but it is metal therefore it has the potental to scratch any polished surface (like the LCD screen of an mp3 player).

I thought I was taking a chance on ordering this, as it says it is 15.5". I thought it should be measured like necklaces, in which case it would be closer to 32" in length. But since it doesn't open up like a necklace-- it's a continuous loop-- I guess the 15.5" is technically accurate. In any event, it is a neck strap, not a wrist strap and it will fit over the average size head easily. It fits over my big head.

It looks very well made and Targus has been making stuff for awhile, so I personally trust the brand and expect the company to stand behind it. It's lightweight but appears sturdy and I feel confident my subcompact point and shoot digital is secure hanging around my neck on this strap. At first I thought a quick release would be nice, but then thought nah, that's just one more thing that can go wrong, a weak link in an otherwise secure retention system.

I purchased this item to secure a Casio Exilim digital camera. The silver 'clasp' portion separated causing the neck loop to stay around my neck, and the camera with the camera loop attached to fall to the ground damaging the camera. There was no pull on the camera, or no force other than the weight of the camera itself. (And it is a very light 5.3 oz camera). The camera loop was attached correctly, it was the clasp connection that failed. I would not recommend this type of lanyard. Instead there are 'one piece' metal chains that are just as light, but do not separate into two pieces.

My problem is not to replace the $4 lanyard, I know that either Amazon or the manufacturer will refund this. Rather, I am now stuck with a $160 camera that is damaged, and I am sure that the manufacturer's warranty will not cover a drop, and I cannot return a dropped item to Amazon. I don't even think that an extended warranty will cover this as it was purchased only a month ago!

I highly doubt that Targus will replace the camera, or refund me the purchase price. If I am wrong, I will let you know!

I would not use this lanyard to secure anything that may be damaged with a drop. So other than flash drives and keys, I would look elsewhere. Remember it is not the cost of the lanyard, but the cost of what you are securing that matters!

This neck strap is not 15.5" long as the description says, you are supposed to measure these like you'd measure a necklace. It's a little over 32" long and if this doesn't fit over your head, you must have a head like Frankenstein's. It's slightly under 1/8" wide, and made of braided plastic. It's very strong, it holds my heaviest digital camera and I'm not worried it will break. Targus is a good name brand for camera accessories.

My only complaint is I look like a tourist when I use it, but it sure beats carrying a camera by the wrist strap, accidentally letting go of it, and ruining a $200.00 camera.

Targus Digital TGK-NS Digital Camera Neck Strap. I purchased two Targus TGK-NS Digital Camera Neck Straps to use for thumb drive lanyards. Both arrived with broken clasps (i.e., the neck strap was detached from the string loop that attaches to the device). The fix was to glue the two parts together.

PRO: (1) The repaired lanyards are sturdy and functional. The neck strap is braided plastic. Both the neck straps and the string loops appear capable of bearing the weight of a portable camera. (2) The lanyard is large enough to fit over my head easily, even when I am wearing glasses. (3) The neck strap takes up very little space in a camera case or computer bag.

CON: Both lanyards arrived with broken clasps.

If the product had arrived unbroken, I would have given it four stars. Since it was easy to repair, it gets three.

Opened the package and it fell out in two pieces. They didn't use enough glue to hold them together, shameful. Glad I didn't hang my brand new $400 dollar point and shoot Canon on it first! Amazon was good, didn't even want it back from me. I'll glue it together myself with the right stuff and maybe drill a pin into it to hold the two pieces together. You could use it for a USB key or something light weight if yours has better factory glue job, not worth the chance though. Buy the Adorama all metal one for a couple bucks more, it's almost as nice as the
Canon, which is very heavy duty for a point and shoot neck strap.

I bought this neck strap for my wife. She wears clothing with no pockets and always carried her cell phone in her purse. The only problem with that is she could never hear her phone ring so no one could ever get ahold of her. This Targus TGK-NS strap is lightweight and matches most cell phones. My wife was a little embarrassed wearing a phone around her neck at first but when she stopped missing calls she got over it.
