I love the fact that I can put my SLR here with plenty of room for lens and other accessories. It is a nice compact option to a backpack when I don't need to pack as much gear.
The padding is such that I feel all my gear is well protected.
The stitching, zippers, etc are all well constructed and appear very durable. The dividers are easy to move around to customize to the lens's I want to carry.
The one draw back is that I do use bulky neoprene neck straps. It takes a bit to tuck the neck strap into place but that is a fairly minor adjustment.
This is a very comparable bag to other sling bags I have seen costing much more.
I am pleased with this purchase and would highly recommend it for those considering a Sling Bag.
I have had this bag for almost 6 months now.
It is holding up well no problems with zipper, straps, or any other part of the bag.
I use this primarily for my Canon 40D though have placed my 7D with a battery grip. Typically either a Sigma 28-300mm f/3.5-6.3 DG IF Macro Aspherical Lens for Canon SLR Cameras is on the 40D and a Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Standard Zoom Lens for Canon SLR Camerasis on the 7D
I have started placing my Metz flash in the top compartment of this pack. along with a Opteka SB-1 Mini Universal Studio Soft Box Flash Diffuser for Canon EOS, Nikon, Olympus, Pentax, Sony, Sigma, & Other External Flash Units.
I'm still very pleased with this product and how much I can fit into it.
This bag has performed admirably. I carry around my dslr, my kit lens, prime lens, and speedlight, and i still have room to spare! The bag is well built and very durable so far. All the zippers and straps and clasps work well and show no sigh of loosening or weakening. The bag holds its shape well when being tossed around, and keeps my stuff safe and secure. My only complaint is my small dslr (Nikon D3100) will slide around a bit inside the bag, even with the longer kit lens on. I've found laying an old hand towel in the bag next to the camera keeps it in place very nicely. It's not a big deal at all, and common to all grades of sling design bags.
Now don't go thinking this bag has the same attention to detail and quality as a Lowepro or other higher end bag. It's a basic bag, but a well built and highly functional basic bag. For the price you cant go wrong, hence my 5 star rating. If you're on a budget and want a good sling bag, definitely give this a try. For the price you can't go wrong.
Don't overload it, this is not a bowling ball bag. Once a stitch snapped somewhere when I took it off my back, but it was because I had it too tight and over a winter coat, the seams are still holding everywhere. I took it with me on a long flight to Mexico, it was perfect because I didn't have to (I didn't want to) put it on the overhead compartment. It just hanged from my knee, safely. I almost got an expensive similar bag, one I am sure I would have been happy with, but I am very happy with this one.
I just noticed Amazon doesn't carry this bag anymore. But is still available around on the Internet, a little more expensive, but still very good. I hope I can find another one when mine is ready for retirement.
The sling-back feature is great, although don't plan on it being extremely useful if you're carrying a tripod as well. If you have a prime lens on, you'll only need access to the camera so it works sufficiently. For a lens swap, plan on removing the tripod. It has a lot of storage for its size. The inside padding is removable/customizable, which speaks volumes for the versatility of this bag. I've found that although the padding throughout isn't extremely protective, it's altogether sufficient if you're a light user.
The price of this bag and the practicality are what really put it in its own class. If you're just getting started, I highly recommend this one. The materials and construction are very nice for the amount you pay. It hugs securely to your back and fits in a lot of small places (there can't be a better carry-on). I'd say the worst thing about it is the red stripe down the middle. It's a little out of place so I nearly removed it, although now it's beginning to growing on me. The bag would be exceptionally plain without it. Nicely done, Targus.
