There's enough padding in the case to provide some protection were I to drop the iPad or fling something upon it. Originally, I wanted a case that would open and provide a stand - and I will still probably go in that direction - but this portfolio is a great option when traveling or carrying the iPad to work inside my messenger bag. I also have the Apple cover and a rubber backing and with these additional items on the iPad, they fit snugly into the Targus portfolio.

Construction is very good. Some of the weavings on the back are starting to show signs of fray from me sliding it around all the time, but in my opinion, it just gives the thing a nice vintage look. The leather is quality and hold up excellently. As the price continues to drop (was originally $60 and now down to $22 on Amazon) the Targus Hughes portfolio becomes all the better of a deal.

The other reviewers are right about this one. It's a great case. It provides more protection than I expected-- I think it provides some protection actually for edge drops (but I wouldn't recommend testing it). I purchased my iPad 2 for both business and home use. For business I have a "tactical bag" that I normally bring with me to client meetings which doesn't roll (which my heavy duty briefcase does.) The tactical bag can even cary a small laptop, (and certainly the iPad), but I think this case may have just become my new tactical bag since these days I need little other than the iPad and a stylus for client meetings. Great design very nicely executed with excellent materials.

I spent a lot of time looking for a case for my Ipad. Each one I looked at had some benefits, but just didn't hit the mark.

What I really wanted was a (real) leather portfolio type case where one side held the Ipad and the other a yellow pad, a pocket for some business cards and a pen. I couldn't find anything that wasn't cheap looking.

This case doesn't entirely fill my needs,however, it does have a place for business cards and I can also fit a USB adapter in the same pocket. I can also clip a stylus pen on the flap tang. As far as class, this case is elegant and is made of an excellent grade of leather in a rich medium brown. If you are someone that cares about quality and appearance --- this is definitely the case to buy.

The case is not cheap, but neither is an IPad.

I looked high and low for the "right" case/carrier for my iPad (3rd gen). Most that I liked we're in the $80-100 range which seemed a bit high to me. I stumbled upon this item while shopping amazon and was a bit hesitant at first. But following a bit of research I decided to give it a shot. What a great decision... Ive used it now for about 3 months and I couldn't be more pleased. The fit is awesome, the case looks great and is starting to develop a nice patina. I use it with my iPad, smart cover, and a clear back sheild... All fit fine inside this very protective sleeve. Very high quality for an excellent price.

Accommodates ANY Generation iPad

While the ad stipulates that the Hughes folio is for iPad 2, there is room to accommodate the first generation iPad or the new iPad as well. In fact (I realize this is overkill) the folio comfortably holds my new iPad which is in a slim, full coverage case (Jisoncase).
The case itself is nice quality natural tanned leather. The feel is sturdy yet supple. The stitching is excellent. The case is nicely padded without contributing too much bulk. The closure tab does a good job of cinching and snugging everything up. In short, this is a fabulous portfolio for any iPad. Classy, rugged, protective and professional.

I love this case. When I bought my iPad 2, I got the nice leather Apple magnetic cover for it, but it doesn't protect the back of the iPad, so I was nervous about throwing the iPad in my bag or car. I looked around a good bit for a nice brown leather case before finding this one.

I honestly almost didn't buy it because of the brand and price. I thought, how nice can it be for $35? Well, I'm glad I tried it. It's very well made, nice quality leather that looks like it will look even better after a few years of scuffs, and it has a good bit of padding in the case so it will really protect your iPad.

It also has enough room to slide your iPad 2 in the case WITH the Apple magnetic screen cover attached. I use a stylus and my iPad to take notes, and take this into meetings instead of taking a notepad and pen... it really looks nice and gets lots of comments.

If you've been looking for a nice brown leather case for your iPad, give it a try. You won't be disappointed.

A Tight Fit Feels So Good Except When You Need It For Your iPad

This is a well made portfolio and a solid Targus product. My issue with this item is that it barely, scarcely allows you to place, slide, or push an iPad 4 inside it. My iPad does not slide in without applying a lot of pushing and pulling on this portfolio to completely cover the iPad. If you've got a cover on your iPad kiss off being able to slide the covered iPad into this carrying case. I wouldn't buy it again. I'm using it for carrying around small notebooks and other stuff I use when I call on clients.
