About the Author
Kim Huggens has been studying Tarot since the age of 9, and is the co-author of Sol Invictus: The God Tarot (Schiffer Publications, 2007) and in-progress companion deck Pistis Sophia: The Goddess Tarot. She lives in Cardiff, UK, where she works as a veterinary receptionist part-time to fund her university studies in Ancient History. She moved to Cardiff in 2002 for her undergraduate degree in Philosophy, and also graduated with an MA in Religion in Late Antiquity from Cardiff University in 2007. Kim has given numerous talks and workshops on the subject of Tarot, divination, Paganism and mythology in the UK, and regularly runs Tarot courses. She is a practicing Vodouisante and Thelemite, and a member of the OTO. She lives with her partner and cat, and in her spare time plays Call of Cthulhu, Dungeons and Dragons, writes short fiction, goes for walks in graveyards and wishes she could translate Sumerian.
Erik C. Dunne is an artist who works on commisioned projects. He's traveled extensively, retracing the footsteps of legendary kings and queens, riding camels across the dunes of Persia, and galloping heavy steeds across fields of gold. A classically trained artist, his medium of choice is digital, where he has allowed his passion for costume design and his roots in the theater to lend their resounding voices to each and every card he creates.~

I opened this deck and was breathless with the rich detail, color, symbolism. This is NOT just yet another RWS clone! But if you learned Tarot by the RWS system you will have no trouble reading with these either, that to me is just yet another example of how fantastic this deck is. It is NEW, it INSPIRES, it allows you to think outside the box, but if you prefer to stay in the "box" you can still read effortlessly with these.
In the review that is at the top of this page I saw the comment made that this deck is "inconsistent" but no mention of how exactly it is inconsistent. I think it is quite clear that the artist intentionally used different cults, mythologies, and magical beliefs/systems as the centerpiece of the deck, that is the point, and I find nothing inconsistent about that at all I think it's wonderful. They go on to say that there is a "significant" reduction in card stock quality from Illuminati, and while I will concede that the cardstock is lighter it is by no means cheap or flimsy, it is simply not as heavy as Illuminati and no it is not gilded. You can never please everybody when it comes to cardstock, it's a personal preference, but don't fool people into thinking that it is cheap when it is not simply because you prefer a heavier stock. On the upside a lighter stock is easier to hold in the hand and is easier to shuffle. Everyone loves gilding! I do too! But I will gladly forgo the gilding when its absence contributed to the spectacular hardcover book that comes with this deck. I will add to this review once I have had time to read the entire book but I am about a quarter through it after just one night and it is hands down the best book I have EVER seen come with a tarot deck! I have more than 20 books on Tarot and this is right up there with the best of them.
All in all this deck and book are stunning, magical, breathtaking, and simply the best Tarot deck that has come out in the past few years. Erik C. Dunne is the reigning King of Tarot artists once again, and unfortunately there will always be those that resent another's whopping success. To those looking for miniscule things to nitpick I would say this - Until you have created something this beautiful (twice!) and shared it with the world in order to bring joy and clarity to others, please go back to your corner and sit down the adults are talking now.
