Available in three models, UST's versatile, ultra-lightweight Tarp Shelters can be used as a sleeping shelter, an all-weather tarp to protect gear, a ground cloth, and even as thermal protection in emergencies. Each flame-retardant tarp has an aluminized reverse side for wrapping around yourself for thermal insulation and reflectivity for emergency signaling. They set up in minutes with the included guy lines and steel stakes, and instructions are conveniently located on the exterior of the stuff sack. All models are backed by a manufacturer's limited lifetime warranty.

Tube Tarp
A hidden zipper transforms the tarp into a tube-shaped, one-person sleeping tent, providing protection from the damp ground below and the elements above. The Tube Tarp measures 84 inches in length and weighs 1.75 pounds; when erected as a tent, it measures 39 x 84 x 35 inches (HxWxD). It packs down to 15 x 4 x 4 inches in the included stuff sack.

Hex Tarp
The six-sided Hex design provides excellent coverage in all weather conditions, and its single person size eliminates the need for a full size tarp. It's great for using as a tent cover for camping hammocks, as well as using in combination with the UST Bug Tent (sold separately). The Hex Tarp measures 108 x 96 x 41 inches (LxWxD) and weighs 1.5 pounds. It packs down to 10 x 4 x 4 inches in the included stuff sack.

All Weather Tarp
The four-sided All Weather Tarp measures 8 x 6 feet and weighs 15 ounces. It packs down to 8.5 x 4 x 4 inches in the included stuff sack.

Great tarp just wish it was a little bigger.

The tarp itself is well made and very light. It packs away very easily and can be strung up in minutes. I used it for the first time as a rain fly over my eno double nest hammock when I canoed down the Suwannee river at the end of February.To make it cover the whole hammock you have to hang it diagonally (it just covers the eno when it is hung tight) but still get good coverage on the sides. It rained on us Saturday night. The tarp stayed waterproof however I did have water run down the guy lines and drip into the hammock. I recommend ditching the stakes that come with it and getting some better ones. All in all I'm really happy with it just wish it was about 4" longer when hung diagonally. Here is a picture of it over my hammock at big shoals on the Suwannee river.

Excellent Value Is What I Like, And It's What I Got!

I purchased this item (I actually bought an open-box warehouse return) a few months ago, and have had several opportunities now to test in some quite rough weather conditions in both the San Gabriel, and Sierra Nevada Mountains during overnight backpacking, and car-camping trips. It has performed flawlessly during several continuous hours of near-torrential rainfall, and even a few hours of heavy early-season snow. Not a leak to be seen yet, but I plan to seam-seal the tarp in the near future, just to be on the safe side. There are a total of 9 guy-out loops along three edges of the tarp, but inexplicably, there is no guy-out attachment point on the center-point edge when the tarp is pitched on its long axis. I overcame this quirk by using a small plastic screw-type tarp clamp which I position at this center-line point. When pitched on its long axis (it is a rectangular tarp), over a solid ridgeline, it provides more than ample coverage for my Yukon Outfitters hammock. So overall, I am quite satisfied with my purchase, and would highly recommend it as a very affordable backpacking tarp. Are there lighter tarps available? yes. Are those lighter tarps much more expensive? Also a yes. Just like most things in this backpacking hobby, the question is always, "How light can you afford to go?"

Very nice tarp! For the modest price this is a complete tarp kit.
Included in the kit:
TARP, hexagonal shape, orange/ yellow on one side, silver on the other, each of the SIX corners has a sturdy nylon strap loop, the two corners along the long axis also have brass colored grommets.
Six GUY LINES, four (4) of six (6) foot length, two (2) of eighteen (18) feet, all with rubber adjusters.
Eight (8) STEEL STAKES
One BAG for the lines + stakes.
One BAG for everything.
Great value! I will by another for other emergency bag.

Great tarp, bought at the last minute and took a gamble. Used it as a hammock tarp and it kept me dry, even though it could use a seam seal. For hammock campers it gives a little extra room so you can cook and sit sideways in your hammock to enjoy the rain. Very light for its size, and built really well for the price.

And I can now also attest to its ability to be used as an emergency blanket. We had torrential rain mid-day this weekend with a temp drop on an exposed mountainside. When i was soaked to the bone i used it to warm myself up, and then get changed under to get out of wet clothes. Then I set it up and was able to stay dry and warm for the night.

hammock campers: The tarp is split into thirds along its longest edge. I used it so that the length of my hammock was going with the shortest edge so i had a little cooking area to the right of my hammock. Not a bad configuration I stayed dry with a good raining even though the very tips of my hammock were sticking out and got a little wet (see the photo). In a really heavy rain I would split the tarp in half along the longest edge to fully cover my hammock, like another reviewer did. It doesnt have loops for this, but you can buy tarp clamps to do it. Other than that, just get a seam sealer, and this is a flawless tarp.

Tips from experience:
Seal it before use.
test configurations before you use it on the trail

The UST B.A.S.E. HEX Tarp 1.0 clocked in at 390 grams on my kitchen digital scale, with Stuff Sack ONLY, but no stakes or guy lines. (The stakes are steel and heavy.) I bought it from this product listing. It is definitely a Hex shape, not square.

I also bought later the UST B.A.S.E Tube Tarp 1.0, and it's 548 grams on the kitchen scale, with Stuff Sack ONLY. Purchased from a different Amazon product listing.

Stuff sacks weigh 12 grams and 16 grams respectively, so you could deduct from numbers above.

I'm still messing around with pitching options and rated 3 stars, as I think these tarps are "cool" but not sure I can rave about them yet. I think I like the Tube Tarp size and shape better than this HEX shape. But the zipper, etc are adding to the weight.

Excellent for hammocks, perhaps a bit short

I believe this company is somewhat new to Amazon's listings, as I bought this tarp before the "hex" shaped version came out, and I must admit, I wish I had bought the hex version simply due to my height (6'3").

The product is amazing though, light as a feather, waterproof, packs down very small. I use it on the ridgeline of my hammock set up when backpacking. When set up, it just barely covers my head and feet, leaving me feeling a touch exposed, but still protected from rain. In my opinion, the stakes are garbage, but thats just because I use it backpacking and can't afford to bring heavy steel items with me (they function fine, just heavy). The guylines are basic braided cord, nothing special. If it was one foot longer (or I was just a bit shorter) I would give this product a 5 star review.

Keep in mind the measurements are from corner to corner, as in 6 feet diagonal x 8 feet diagonal, making for a diamond shape.

My friend and I went out and combined this hammock and his own to make an amazing shelter for our hammock set up. It did rain that night and not a single drop of water got through. Great tarp for the price. The only downfall is that it is not the biggest tarp ever, but it absolutely gets the job done
