I purchased after I lost a scale I had for years. It arrived w the battery half drained. I emailed, they nicely replied and said they would ship new batteries, never received. They are not common batteries and quite honestly a hassle to replace.
After less than a year it broke. Months later I found my old scale and it still worked. Have never replaced batteries in that one and it’s been over 5 years. According to reviews it so awesome product but obviously seller has paid lot of money to get 5 star reviews. Well my experience is that this purchase was a waste of money.
1. When weighing normal luggage about 50lbs then its impossible to get the reading fixed. It will bounce 3lbs up and down and you can only guess the correct weight. It can cause some surprises in the airport. With smaller weights there is no problem to get the correct fixed weight.
2. When weighing luggage around 50lbs scale makes noises like its about to crack.

ITS a LOW QUALITY and worthless product!

I like this scale a lot. It's beautifully made. I feel I can give it 5 stars.

Here's a tip for travelers who don't want to deadlift fifty pounds (a suitcase hanging from their hand scale while it calculates the weight). Hitch a piece cord around the scale's handle. Use a broom handle (or sturdy monopod) for leverage, placed through the cord. Support one against something slightly taller than the scale strap + suitcase then lift up using the object (couch arm etc) as a fulcrum. An alternate method is to but the suitcase on a box and do the same thing using a cane, crutch, shaft of an ice axe, baseball bat, or the leg of a chair--then lift up, then push the suitcase off the box so it can be suspended by the scale. Another method is to use a short stick held between two people.

Other reviews mention a potential battery issue. I like the idea to not relying upon the auto shut off feature by manually turning it off, or going a step further by carrying a small phillips screwdriver in order to insulate the photo battery (CR 3022) contact points with a skinny piece of paper.

Both these measures are purported to extend battery life.

I have managed to make countless overseas trips without ever owning a little scale before. However, that was the golden age of travel when a few extra pounds of luggage didn't matter, meals were given out to everyone on the flight, and everyone tried to be polite to one another--all the time.

In terms of redesigning the scale for the future--materials and ergonomically--I wouldn't change a thing, perhaps a screwdriverless way to insulate the battery contacts. Building in an LED light thermometer is also an option--or a motion-sensitive (or trip-wire) alarm for added security while traveling? I should work for Bond as Q!

I tested a scale repeatedly using a heavy suitcase and found it to be very precise.

Does the job but doesn’t

I started using my new scale last Monday when I started packing for my relocation. At first I was very happy. It looks great, it feels great and it seemed to be accurate. BUT after a few weighings it STOPPED being accurate. I have to weigh everything three times to try to calculate an average. Sometimes I have to weigh things more times than that. For despite having the thing I am weighing hanging completely free from touching anything else and being still the scale shows diffferent weights :( And not slightly different weights, sometimes it shows 0.4 and the next 2.8 and the next 1.6. I have tried different methods to see if I can get at least the same weight every time but so far I have not had success. Some of the methods I have used: I turn the scale off completely, I wait for 10 seconds or more before turning it again, I reset it to 0 (making sure there is no weight on it so I am not just using to “tare” ... but unfortunately as I said it doesn’t give me the same weight. :( I wish I could rely on it. The company seems cool but this product doesn’t work and I leave this weekend!

Excellent luggage scale and story of why you need one - read below!

I just returned from Albuquerque which was my first trip since purchasing the luggage scale. First about the scale, I couldn't recommend this strongly enough. The grip is perfectly conformed to your hand which makes it super-duper simple to attach and lift. Boom, your reading is digitally displayed so you don't have to "line up" a line to a weight. Light but feels VERY durable... you can just tell when things are built to last. Got it right away for my upcoming trip.

Second, a real-life story that is just too fun not to share (and timely): I was going to a conference and met someone at the airport who was also going. He had this odd pink plastic bag which looked cumbersome as it was make-shift attached to his carry-on. I didn't even ask about it, but he said, "I'm quite PO'd! My bag was literally 50.5 pounds and they wouldn't let me by. I was running late for my flight so I panicked and rather than re-shuffle my bags, I pulled out my dirty clothes bag (which was this pink bag) from the previous few days of travel. Now that's my second carry-on (Personal Item under the seat). Nice airline that makes me travel with my dirty clothes in a hot pink bag for 1/2 a pound!"

After we laughed about it, I told him I'd literally purchased a digital scale less than a week before. He said he'd own by the end of the conference!

Moral of the story: Buy this scale and you'll never have to travel with your dirty underwear in a hot pink bag as a carry-on:-).
