I bought this beginner telescope & microscope set for my seven year old son for Christmas. He absolutely LOVES it! I was nervous that, because of the price, it might not be very durable. However, was I SUPER surprised! This is such a NICE set!! It is almost summertime and he still begs to play with it! I would suggest this kit for any child who has a beginning curiosity in science.

This is my first review on Amazon but I felt I needed to share my experiences in case this helps other parents in my position. Right out of the box I'd give this thing 1 star but with some inexpensive tweaks it can be bumped up to 4 stars. This is a wordy review, so if you're going to complain about the length move on. However, if you're stuck with this telescope and want to fix it, keep reading.

I have a couple larger, more expensive telescopes and my 5 year old child was watching me use them and became interested. The trouble with astronomy is that for kids it tends to be a "don't touch" activity. "Here, look through here but don't bump the telescope... oops, you bumped it... now move while I point it back at the right thing... now look... you can't see anything? Move again while I adjust it... " No surprise when the kid loses interest and wants to go play with something else. I wanted a way to make astronomy more hand-on, exploration-based, and, well, *fun*.

I bought this telescope because I wanted something inexpensive and small for the kid to play and experiment with. I wanted it cheap enough I didn't mind so much if it got broken and I wanted it small enough the kid wouldn't be too intimidated to carry it around and explore how to use it. I picked it up on sale after Christmas for $15. Because I read some negative reviews, I went ahead and set it up to test it out before turning the kid loose, which was a good thing because trying to show the kid how to use it right out of the box would have led to frustration.

First, the bad: The negative reviews are correct. Right out of the box, this thing is a pain to focus on anything so that you can actually *see*.

I purchased this product for my grandson's 8th birthday - granted it is not professional equipment but neither is he - he and his family have had a great time looking at the stars and anything else he can bring home -

Boy, it is such a hard thing to operate. First, the instructions needs to be clear and should give an example setup. Being an engineer and after working in optics lab, I can tell you, it was not easy for me to set it up.

Conceptually it is a great product, assuming it works, it will excite kids as well as grown-ups. I bought this for niece and nephew. We were so excited about this product and finally when we got it, we spent almost 3+ hours to make it work (if we can say that). Tons of problems starting with focus. The first step in optical experiments is you need to focus on something that you already know it exists and then look for different things that are not visible with naked eye. I took almost 30+ minutes to just focus on tree top in the yard. Forget about anything else. That was the only success we had even after spending 3+ hours by 2 engineers.

Common guys, how hard is to make telescope in this age. Just put some time into design and usability before you release your product. UX, UI (borrowed terms from app or software) is what this product is MISSING.

Consumer products = User experience FIRST and Tech SECOND

This product deserves zero stars.

It is hard to throw this product in garbage because the concept is good and being an engineer you always think you can make it work someday. So it is sitting in our GARAGE instead of GARBAGE

Can't get telescope to focus on any stars. Using the finder I can get a bright star in the crosshairs, but doesn't show in the actual telescope with diagonal or straight lens. Read instructions carefully, assembled it as shown. Instructions are horrible and are for 3 different models with no troubleshooting help. Microscope has one of the 3 extended lenses falling off. Can't get it back in. Although we paid more a few weeks ago, the price is now down to 18 dollars. You will get what you pay for with this piece of garbage. For the 20 something dollars my wife paid I would be better of buying something of value.

there was more to it that i didnt realize, in fact it comes with slides and liquid dyes and even a scalpal so be careful for the age range of who you are giving it to. I bought it for my 6 yr old. i have to take some of the suff out but it is really nice for the price

This is a great starter telescope/microscope for young kids. My son who is 10 had no trouble at all putting this together and uses it every night. great value, would not be able to find anything that would compare for the price at any retail store.

I got this for my son's seventh birthday. He loves it. It works great for what I got it for. Perfect for a starter gift. Once he has this one down we will look at moving on to something bigger. Seller was awesome. Got this gift even sooner than stated. Thanks again.
