Taser C2, good or bad?
on December 29, 2016
I own a Taser C2, I purchased it about 18 months ago. The Taser is kind of awkward feeling in your hand. I test fired it and one of the two probes did not penetrate the corrugated cardboard target. The one thing that I do not like about it is it is not a safe weapon to operate. It has a sliding door on top that you move back with your thumb to uncover the fire button. When you slide the door back you have to keep your thumb away from the firing button or you can accidentally fire the Taser when you are not ready. This is also true when you attempt to slide the door forward to its safe position. If your thumb slides forward and pushes the button instead of sliding the door it will fire. Always have it pointed in a safe direction when moving the safety(switch cover door) forward or backwards. Never point it towards a persons face. I have read where several people have accidentally fired it.
Secondarily, the battery in mine has just died, I fired it twice and opened the safety door practicing a half dozen times for 5 seconds each. It says it is good for 50 firings, not true. The replacement battery which is not rechargeable costs between $39-$49. I can see no reason it is not rechargeable other than the profit for Taser Company. Stun guns have rechargeable batteries why not Taser? The dart cartridges are ridiculously over priced. They are $70 bucks per pair and have a shelf life of 5 years. So when you buy them make sure that they are not older manufactured ones because it is printed on the bottom of the cartridge and starts from the date they are manufactured. Insist on newly made ones. On a good note it is comfortable to carry on your belt, and fairly quick to deploy. Don't rely on 15 feet of distance, I would try for about 10 to make sure the attacker is in range. Always carry a spare cartridge in a pouch on your belt or purse for back up in case of a miss or misfire. I wish Taser would change the safety door to something more safe than the current one. This review is from owning one and my opinion of the product, judge one for yourself.
