Things I liked:
I love books that take place in NYC. I love the unique job, Beryl working as a house sitter for the rich, it was actually really interesting. And the way that she approached her job, how she got to know the occupants of the homes she was in by organizing and cleaning their house. She didn’t just make their lives easier but in some cases it seemed like she was the only one who sees them, especially with Greta. I loved that Gavin and Beryl are so separate for so much of the book, I love books with letters and text messages, it really is one of my favorite things. I liked the dynamic between Gavin and Beryl, she’s a great reflection for him, to really see himself and help him grow. And he really gives her some confidence to keep moving forward.
Things I didn’t like:
I didn’t love how short things were after Gavin came home. It was like, hi I’m home, now insert some drama, bam drama over, end book. I thought the potential was there for some awesome moments with Beryl and a Stella after the video, but it was so glossed over it almost felt pointless or like an afterthought.
I really did think this book had a lot of potential, but it just wasn’t fleshed out enough for me, the first part of the book is a lot stronger than the end for me.
Overall I did like this story and will most likely read the next book.
Well, i really thought this one was going to be a super hot rock star book. But no, there were some parts of this book that i liked and that is the only reason why i'm giving it 2.5 stars.
Beryl is an organizer, and ultra-responsible? No, not in my book. If you are hired to organize someone's house, you don't read their journals, or keep the things they discard and use them in front of them! There were so many things like this that didn't sit well with me and i just couldn't relate to Beryl, at all!
Seriously, I fell in love with Gavin myself just from the emails, chat messages, and the videos Beryl watched on the computer. I love how we couldn't see him, yet, we knew him and got to learn so much about him. And that's why this book is my favorite book of the year. The author did something I've never read or experienced before. She made the main character likable and made me fall in love with his character, without us even meeting him! And unlike most rock-stars you read about, Gavin isn't a complete a**hole. He's damaged and made mistakes, but at least he could admit them, own them, and grow from the experience.
Beryl is a twenty-two year old woman whom's looking for an adventure. Having to grow up fast to take care of her mother, who didn't deal with the death of her father well, Beryl missed out on a lot of teenage experiences. But when her father's best friend re-enters her life and offers her a job in New York, she jumps at the chance to change her life and seek the adventure she has been craving.
Instead of being an assistant to her sort of uncle, he offers her a job as a house sitter for the rich and famous. Not having anywhere else to stay, since her roommate situation fell through, she accepts the offer, not thinking it would be too difficult--until she saw the famous rock-star, Gavin's, penthouse thrashed. For some unknown reason, Gavin, who is the lead singer of the band Tattoo Thief, left his penthouse in a mess, abandoned his dog, and left the country. What happened to him that made him abandon his life and flee?
Beryl, angry and feeling the need to give the rock-star a kick to the arse, emails him, requesting to know what to do with his penthouse and inquiring why he left so suddenly, leaving all his responsibilities behind. She expected an answer, what she didn't expect was to fall in love with the man, whom she never met. Little does she know Gavin is looking for a reason to come back, some light in his life that's currently surrounded by darkness, and she just might be what the doctor prescribed.
Will Beryl uncover why he left New York so suddenly? Was Gavin responsible for his old muses death? And do they have a future together that doesn't include eternal darkness and self-loathing.
I usually end my review with a few of my thoughts about the book as a whole, but thoughts are eluding me. I'm just so overwhelmed with emotions from this book and I honestly feel lucky I found this book. Not many books make me speechless, or keep me thinking, but this book...all I can say is it was mind-blowing! Seriously, don't walk, RUN, and get this book. I personally can't wait to read the next book, it's about Beryl's best friend and one of Gavin's band-mates.
Oh! Another great thing about this book is that it's a standalone! So no cliffhangers with you dying to get the next book. Okay, that isn't completely true. Yes, there's no cliffhangers, but you are going to want to read the next book about Stella and Tyler!
I highly, highly, recommend this book to everyone!
My favorite quotes:
"I'm the ghost, the house-elf, the dog-walker, delivery-receiver, fridge-stocker, unseen errand-girl who keeps everything running until they come home."
"Be safe, but have an adventure."
"I do love you, Gavin, I fell for you and I care about you and I'm crazy about you and I love you."
"Do you know what Queen Elizabeth wrote after 9/11? 'Grief is the price we pay for love."
"Physics. Newton's third law says, 'for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.' And that's what I'm looking for. My opposite, and my equal."
Top international reviews
The conversations between them are good and I laughed each time he a typical sulky guy when she got the better of him. We meet the rest of the band who go on to appear in their own books , Tyler seems sweet and Jayce will be an interesting read. Although the story predictable, there are still a few twists to wonder what will happen. I loved Charles the doorman and Anthony was an absolute gentleman so I will let him finish my review with his advice to Beryl :- " Life's not always perfect. Even for people who look perfectly happy"
Whitest at work in the coffee place her 'uncle' shows up after 9 years and offers her a job in New York. She is just as shocked, scared and as she is excited about the change and freedom.
She was meant to move in with her best friend Stella but she is a total flake and let's her down And that’s exactly how Beryl ended up house sitting for rock star Gavin Slater, lead singer of Tattoo Thief.
Gavin had left his apartment in a hurry, and no one knew where to or why. What Beryl did know is that before he left, he trashed his house, and it was now her job to get it all cleaned up. After contacting the sexy, singing bad boy via email, the pair started a friendship that quickly escalated into more, as Gavin found what he had been looking for. His opposite, and his equal.
I loved the concept of how this couple were put into each others lives, and helped the other without even realising it. I think it was a great way for their relationship to develop and I liked that the majority of their communication was online while Gavin was away. It was different, that they got to know each other so intently before they had even met.
I really enjoyed seeing the things that Beryl had to do, in other people's houses. When she met Joey the young 19 year old, he is your average 19 year old bad boy with rich parents, and she is a ball buster to him.
Look forward to reading the next books to find out what happens with Tyler and Stella and hopefully we get to see the rest of the band too!
When I first read the books we were still waiting for Dave the last band members book but that's being released very soon and I'm hoping some questions are answered about his dysfunctional relationship with Girlfriend.
I would definitely recommend for anyone wanting to read sexy, hot , tattooed Rock star books or just a good romance. And a bonus seems to be this first book is permanently free.
Beryl is sick of her stagnant life and moves to New York for some excitement but the transition is problematic. Desperate for somewhere to stay her employer suggests that she looks after a client's dog in his apartment until he returns. The client turns out to be a rock star that left in a hurry. Beryl strikes up an unlikely friendship with the rock star over the internet.
An interesting story with a conclusion which is always a bonus, though there are more in the series.
I loved the characters apart from the crushing insensitivity of Beryl and a dress at one point.
A great read and I look forward to reading the others at some point.
This is written from the perspective of the main character Beryl. I have to admit, not loving the name Beryl but hey if that is the only thing I can whinge about you know that this is worth downloading.
The book contains messages between Beryl and Gavin who is the lead singer of a band called Tattoo Thief - and that is a name I like! Whilst the story contains little dips and turns it does flow well.
The author writes that the next book can stand alone, but I beg to differ. you need to read all three - and then the 4th book which will be released in the spring of 2015
Tattoo Thief is a totally unique rock star romance, it was not what i was expecting it surprised me in a good way.
Beryl and Gavin's relationship starts out easy with emails and texts while he is away, they move from work related to flirty its so cute. I love Beryl, she's quirky and funny she goes from unsure to confident the more time she lives in NYC and her job is awesome she gets to see the tarnish underneath the celebrity outer shine.
This is a sweet story and i found it a easy enjoyable read.
He is distraught by the death of his muse but gets a regular verbal arse kicking from Beryl his house sitter. They develop a relationship chatting online, but will it be real when he returns.
Her best friend steals something with no consideration on who she may hurt just to get ahead. Am off to read book 2
