Syn could not catch a break in this book. She’s fighting everything and everybody, even her own feelings. She took hit after hit and although occasional cracks would form, she just kept standing back up, but even she knew that at some point she would break.
She fought her destiny hard, maybe too hard. The way she fought against what everyone knew was inevitable, at times she came off as irrational and childish but I also completely understood why she was acting like this and my heart just broke for her.
Ryder made me want to rip his head off several times in this book. He has secrets and he’s not sharing. He doesn’t think he’s capable of loving, but he wants Syn with every fiber of his being and being the Fae he is, he’s hell bent on keeping her no matter what he has to do. As the secrets he’s been keeping come to light, especially the ones concerning Syn and some of the things he orchestrated in the past, Syn starts to wonder if she will ever be able to forgive him, and you just can’t really blame her.
Despite her feelings toward him, Syn needs Ryder to teach her how to survive as a Fae. The times they spent together alone brought them closer, but also served as a reminder that he’s fae through and through, and she was raised human. It’s easy to forget their fundamental differences, but unless they both keep that in mind they are doomed.
Even with all the issues, these two are freaking hot when it comes to the sexy times. I looked forward to each and every sex scene, and there are a lot of them. It doesn’t matter how much at odds these two are, when they get together all those feelings they deny are front and center and the already hot chemistry they have just explodes.
Just like the first book, just when you think things are finally going to go well for Syn and even Ryder, a huge twist hits and throws everything into disarray. The danger to Syn is increasing and it’s going to take everything Ryder has in him to keep her alive. Worlds need be saved which means sacrifices must be made, and those expected sacrifices are huge. Even on a reread, I knew what was coming, and it sent me reeling.
Taunting Destiny was a heartbreaking, mysterious, dark, emotional rollercoaster ride that had me constantly wondering how this could ever turn out well. I don’t think I will ever get tired of rereading this series as I impatiently wait for more.
Taunting Destiny picks up exactly where the first book ended, leading to a very exciting opening that pulled me right in, frantically flipping the pages to see what happens next!
In this book, Synthia is struggling after everything that happened in the first book. Her future is uncertain. A different path than the one she worked her whole life for, is laid out in front of her and she’s confused and afraid this new direction is going to take her right to the front door of her enemy. She has to align herself with those she’s spent her whole life hating, trying to fit into her new life and everything it entails, while also trying to keep the core of who she is.
While this change is taking place, she also has the burden of hunting down whoever is still hurting the Fae and trying her best to stay one step ahead of the ones targeting her.
Her past is confronted head on, her lineage is discovered, as well as Adam’s and she’s trying not to let the passion and growing emotions she has for Ryder, consume her.
And just when she think’s she has it somewhat figured out and has found her place in her new world, the ground shifts once again and threatens to take it all away, only this time, it seems she might be on her own with no backup, no Guild and no Dark Prince. She’s got A LOT going on! But she’s still the tough fighter and defender we fell in love with in the first book, packing a ton of snark, deep loyalty and bravery.
Ryder is still the sexy, mystery, assertive Fae we loved in book one, but I also enjoyed the slight tendering of his character the author gave us. Don’t get me wrong, that Fae is still very much the alpha and dominant protector, but he’s coming to grips with his feelings for Syn and that struggle playing out was so much fun to read!
I LOVED the world building the author gave us in this book. If you read my book one review, you might have noticed I was a little underwhelmed with the world building, but in this book, the author steps up and delivers a creative, exciting, majestic world that is undeniably intriguing and mysterious!
Ohh, and the lusty sex scenes with a dirty talking alpha and a heroine who holds her own was HOT! The author amped up the steamy-sexy in this installment and holy fire, the chemistry between Ryder and Syn was explosive! The sexual tension they had in book one is now a burning inferno as they give into their need and desire for one another! Sinfully sexy!!
I have to talk about the emotional side of this read. There were moments when I truly felt Syn’s pain, her heartbreak and her fear. I even teared up at a couple of places and that’s not like me at all. The author did a phenomenal job of pulling me in and making me believe I was part of the story, instead of just a spectator. And I LOVED it!
This book had an amazing story, filled with adventure, mystery, suspense, fiery passion, great dialogue and a cast of formidable characters that fascinate and beguiled this reader.
That ending? Wow! A major cliffy, but thankfully, the third book is already on my reader waiting for me. YAY!!
