Magazine content:
I am a DIYer, not a professional, but I have been able to use the information in the magazine often to help me complete many of homeowner projects...
The subscription is expensive, but the print quality of the magazine is excellent and the articles tend to be very well written.
I believe that information I have gotten from the magazine to help me with my homeowner's projects has saved me the cost of the subscription many times over. I use the tool comparison reviews to help me make tool purchase decisions. The technique articles help me to do better work and get better results. The magazine has made me aware of new tools and products that have recently come to market that can make my projects easier and/or better and where to get them.
I also subscribe to its sister magazine 'Fine Woodworking'.
This magazine does talk to a level of reader that would have some construction, carpentry, home building experience. A complete novice might not get the most out of it but if you are mechanically inclined and want to learn more about this subject it is helpful and they do enough teaching that you would enjoy it.
Fine Homebuilding avoids the jargon and has some great writers. Their articles come from professionals with real world situations and solutions be it how to properly vent a roof to the best way to layout a kitchen. There are also some novel ideas that come from architects, designs, professionals, and homeowners.
Fine Homebuilding provided me with some excellent knowledge/methods that I have been able to apply to my profession and weekend house projects. I'm sure you will find yourself, as I do, checking the mail hopping your next issue has been delivered.
