This Taylor K-1001 Basic Residential Series DPD swimming pool and spa test kit is easy to use and provides fast, accurate readings. Kit tests for Free Chlorine (.5-5 ppm), Bromine (1-10 ppm) and pH (6.8-8.2 ppm). It features a hard shell case, an easy-to read comparator with molded fill lines, .75 ounce reagents, and user-friendly, color-coded instructions. The flip side of the instruction card has dosage charts so you can translate test results into treatment.

I don't really care much for this test (but this works too well to get 2 stars). Taylor makes quality reagents and test cells. They even take the time to print up the instructions on plastic (waterproof) paper. Having used both Taylor's DPD and FAS-DPD kits, I feel the FAS-DPD test gives better precision. It can easily read FC and TC from 0.2ppm to 20ppm without difficulty. The best this comparitor will give is 0.5 ppm to 5ppm. All around I use a combination of daily OTO testing and weekly FAS-DPD testing. I would suggest you look at the following:
Taylor K-1000 Basic OTO for daily testing.
Taylor K-1003 OTO Troubleshooter good for OTO and cheap refills every spring (and occasionally as cheap as the Basic OTO).
Taylor K-2006 FAS-DPD Complete which has almost everything you'll ever need.

I check the Chlorine level and PH balance very often so I'm glad this compact and complete kit concentrates on those two most important tests, eliminating having to bring out the larger test kit which includes test chemicals for tests that I perform less frequently. Great price for three bottles of chemicals plus comparator.

I can not determine what the free chlorine and total bromine test should read. I am trying to test my well water after it has gone thru my chlorinator to make sure it is safe to drink. When I tried it I did not get any reading. Any help or suggestions would be helpful.

I use this to test Cl & pH at home on a regular basis. I take a sample to the pool store to test other levels (phosphates, CYA, CH, TA) that this kit doesn't screen for, but the reading from this kit always matches the pool store measurements. For some reason, it's cheaper to buy a new set than to refill the reagents.

This test kit is awesome. Used other brands and they were hard to match the color. THis is a superior kit (due to the ease of matching the color of liquid and the color coding that's on the kit) and it's cheap. Couldn't ask for more. For basic checking it really is the best test kit I've used.
