Decent by itself, superb with a good aftershave

I first stumbled upon this shaving cream while getting a fine shave in a boutique barbershop in London while on a business trip. The master barber started with a pre-shave oil and a hot towel to get the whiskers soft and ready. He then started to whip up a pea-sized amount of this shaving cream using a brush soaked with water to create a rich warm lather (it was a brand new shaving set which I ended up buying). After applying this to my face, he reached for a straight razor with a wooden handle and started lightly shaving my face, which became completely smooth in a few minutes. While I did enjoy the simple sandalwood scent, it didn't really feel like the shaving cream provided adequate moisture, so I was still craving to complete my experience with something that would calm my skin along with a more memorable scent. Thankfully, my barber had some quality post-shave treatments on hand to finish off the job so he used Blaviar (Epsilon by Blaviar | Ultra-Luxury Eau de Cologne After-Shave Balm, 5 fl oz / 150 mL), which became my favorite ever since but I'm sure there are other good ones as well. I found the post-shave was essential in completing the shaving experience with this cream. I'm still using this cream because I like the simple sandalwood scent (better than the peppermint version IMHO), I just wish it were less drying to my face (other creams I’ve tried might feel slightly better in moisturizing my face but their scents are less appealing). I would suggest using a high-quality post-shave balm along with this product, otherwise you may experience some dryness at the end.

A Really Great Smelling Cream with Rich Lather

This is a great concentrated, mild smelling, masculine scented cream. I first tried Avocado scent, which had too much floral and citrus scent for me. After returning and purchasing this, I could actually enjoy how great this cream really is. It provides a nice, rich later with just a small dab of cream. The scent only lasts for a few minutes after the shave. I wish it lasted longer as it is a really nice masculine smell without the older barbershop smell of sandalwood. I was at an old time drug store the old day that sold several TOBS scents and I had a chance to smell some others as well. The Rose was very strong, and in my opinion, feminine. A strong Rose scent that my wife said that was too strong for her. The lavender was a bit softer, but more floral tones and not my thing. The almond was quite interesting. Like smelling almond extract. Very good, but a bit of a sweet smell. The coconut really smelled like coconuts, almost like a pina colada. The Jermyn scent I am a bit indifferent on. It had a light cologne scent, but there was hint of a bitter smell that I really didn't care for. The Eton College was actually my favorite. It was a light scent with some citrus, but also a light cologne. This will be my next purchase.

My first time using the cream I had a hard time mixing it right with water and the right amount. Thankfully I learned from sharpologist that you need to wet the brush thoroughly. I like to heat up the cup with hot water - oooo nice. Then I swirl the brush once around on the surface of the cream. Sharpologist says to get about an almond size of cream in the brush. I didnt know what sandalwood smelled like before purchasing, but for those that dont know, this is exactly what you would expect an old 50's barber shop experience to be like, smells and all. The first day the smell lingered way too much, so I learned i had to wash my face pretty good after the shave. Now I love the smell. I wish that I had a different smell to mix in with it though for variety. I am going to buy this one and a lime or avocado smell to mix up the monotony a bit and I will absolutely be happy with both.

I'm relatively new to wet shaving, having put away my power fusion razor and purchasing a Edwin Jagger DE razor, along with a Badger hair brush, just a few weeks ago. I had a tube of RS shaving crème that I had purchased for when I travel, so when the razor and brush arrived I began using the RS crème for my shaves. The RS was very good but I did some research and after reading several reviews I decided to purchase Taylor of Old Bond Street Lavender shaving crème. What a difference a crème makes, this crème is fantastic, and has improved my entire shaving experience. The lavender is a nice, clean , fresh, yet manly scent, and is not overpowering, nor does it linger too long after the shave. The crème itself lathers very nicely and just a very small amount on the brush is enough for three passes plus. The shave I get from this crème is smooth and comfortable, and because of the small amount needed, I expect it to last a long time, before having to re-order. Simply put this crème, along with my badger hair brush, and Edwin Jagger has transferred shaving into a very enjoyable experience.

Bought the coconut and boy does it smell great. A little dab will do ya' with this stuff and add a little water and presto you've got a luxurious shave cream. I used this on my pits and for the first time ever I didn't get irritation, bumps or ingrown hairs. Makes my legs feels smooth and did I mention the smell is fantastic. I cannot wait to try the peppermint one, but this tub will last forever so I will probably be waiting awhile.

That's right - simply the best, smoothest, closest shave I've gotten (& been shavin' a long time!). Sure beats my old "for sensitive skin" shaving cream. And this is with using my same Gillette Sensor XL razor I've used for 20+ years now. And as an added bonus, my blades seem to last longer. It's well packaged w/a pleasing white/ivory-colored cream (not thin or watery). Has a classy, subtle man's aroma. Can be used with any after-shave. Brushes well into a lather. Really get "yer bang for yer buck" with this one. Will be ordering again & again, etc.

This is now my go-to cream in the morning.
