This thermometer keeps track of the temperature inside a freezer, refrigerator, or deli case from minus 40 to 60 degrees F. Its 3-1/2-inch face is magnified so it can be read easily, and the face shows safe zones for food temperatures in green. A shatterproof plastic lens protects the glass temperature tube, which is filled with a nontoxic liquid. The thermometer can stand on a flat surface or be hung from a rack. --Fred Brack

I initially encountered the same problem many reviewers reported, the suction cups wouldn't stick well enough to support the weight of the thermometer. Since I purchased the thermometer to use in my freezer, I thought I'd try to get them to freeze into place.

With the suction cups still attached to the thermometer, I wet the underside of each suction cup, pressed them into place, then detached the thermometer. There's a tiny hole in the center of the suction cup that lets the air out when you press it into place. Successful suction requires a vacuum, so in a circular motion I pressed around the circumference of the suction cups, careful not to press over the tiny hole in the center of each cup. Without the weight of the thermometer, the wet suction cups froze firmly into place. A few hours later I reattached the thermometer. When the suction cups were still solidly holding the thermometer in place a few days later, I decided to test it by hanging a key ring that contained 8 keys and a small Swiss army knife, from the thermometer. The suction cups were adhered firmly enough to support the weight of the thermometer and the heavy set of keys.

As you can see from my images, I placed the thermometer on the roof of my freezer. In order to be able to read it I bent the clips outward to a 45 degree angle. This placed the thermometer in a readable position when I attached it to the roof of my freezer.

I bought three of these. One for my refrigerator, one for the freezer and one for my big freezer that is outside. The thermometers work fine. They are very hard to put in. The included suction cups are hard to mount and they don't stick. If you get them to stick, they won't stay long. The metal hooks on the back work much better, but they still don't fit well. They would probably work fine hooked on a regular refrigerator rack. Mine has a piece over the front that prevents me from hanging it there. My only option is to use the door area, but I had to force it on, bending the metal brackets out a bit.

well built and fulfills it's purpose perfectly. it is easy to read and has idiot-proof markings of proper cold and frozen food storage temperatures. having worked in food service within the military, i can't overstate how important a thermometer is in your cold storage areas. how else do you know you're food is being stored correctly? you don't...unless you have thermometers. i found that the temp in my freezer was not where it should be...it was too warm by almost 10 degrees! after turning the setting up a notch, everything was A-OK. without a thermometer, i would never have known and would have had to rely on the recommended manufacturer settings for the freezer (which is a bad idea). even if your freezer has a built-in digital thermometer, you should still have a thermometer that lives in the freezer, as all electronic devices eventually fail or give false readings.

these alcohol based units are also far more accurate and reliable than the dial-type ones, which invariably fail within a short amount of time. this one is built to be pretty tough, as thermometers get dropped all the time in the industry, and perhaps even at home, depending upon where and how you decide to mount it. this is a quality NSF approved thermometer and well worth the money.

I purchased 4. I have 2 refrigerator/freezers and one standup freezer. I rotate one between the two freezers in the garage. They all measure almost identically, so I feel they are good quality. Update 6-11-2012, these are still working perfectly. I highly recommend them.

I bought 2 of these for my deep freezer, plus a rotary thermometer from a different manufacturer to ensure accuracy. All thermometers match when in the same area of the freezer. I did not have the problem others have reported with bubbles, and needing to shake the thermometer down. I also don't have any particular problem reading it, at least compared to other thermometers of this type. It does what I needed it to do, and it didn't break the pocketbook. Overall, this was a good purchase.

I'll mention that the thermometer I received is slightly different from the picture. The numbers on mine only go down to -20 degrees. This is fine for most people, as home deep freezers rarely get below -8 or so.

I was looking for a fridge/freezer thermometer that made it easy to tell when the temperature was in the correct range. This is it! A quick glance and you can tell if your refrigerator or freezer temperature is correct or out of whack. Inexpensive insurance for all the food in your refrigerator.

The thermometer I received looked different than the one pictured, however it was fine with me since it also added a Celsius scale. I adhered two small circular magnets (BYKES 10 Neodymium magnets) to the back of the metal clips with some 3M extreme double sided mounting tape, and put it at the back and top on inside of our new standup freezer. Works great, and won't get in way of our stored food and unlikely to move since the magnets are so strong.

Nothing to get excited about. They serve the purpose of monitoring the temperatures in our back-up refrigerator / freezer. My only complaint is that they have to be viewed at an extremely exact angle to get a reading.
