Although both are quite well played, the Serenade needs MORE strings than the Russian Virtuosi employ or possess, and the Souvenir de Florence need LESS! - Regarding the Serenade, listen to what the Philadelphia Orchestra strings achieve under Ormandy, or what the Boston Symphony do under Munch, and you'll see what I mean.
As far as the "Souvenir" is concerned, listen to the Borodin Quintet in the work, and hear how much more expressive the work is in a fabulous performance.
