Regardless of your ideology, you will appreciate the well documented, unemotional, intellectually rich development of each chapter. It is a compelling and quick read. I have dog-eared many pages so I can go back and browse the many interesting links.
This book is not filled with an ego-centric belief that one person, organization or even large groups of people speak for the Tea Party Movement. Meckler and Martin are simply the ears and mouth of the many people they interact with. They have captured the thoughts of so many Americans and illustrated them eloquently in this book.
Chapter 6 is my favorite. "The Educational Tea Party". It is shocking to me that with the skyrocketing federal spending on education in our public schools, test scores have not increased in over 40 years. The graph is very compelling. The point that increased federal spending does not improve the learning taking place in our nations public schools is a great example of the underlying message of the Tea Party Movement. It speaks to the waste and inefficiency taking place at the federal level.
The book is rich with examples of why the Federal Government has reached far beyond what is practical in almost every area of our lives. The examples Meckler and Matin use are compelling and easy to remember.
This book is focused on educating those who are interested in perpetuating the success the United States of America has achieved in just two-and-a-third centuries of existence. The Second American Revolution WILL return our elected officials to the values that are responsible for that success. When the citizens hold our elected officials accountable to the Constitution, take them to task over irresponsible spending and demand free markets, the American way of life will continue to be THE example to be followed around the world.
The Tea Party is, in fact, a movement. It's not a political party. It isn't an offsoot or wing of any political party. It takes no stand on social issues. It's focus is on fiscal matters. As such, it's just as critical of the Republicans as it is of the Democrats. It's sole concern is restoring to America the principles of the Constitution and Bill of Rights, which have served as the foundation of this nation since the Revolutionary War. In fact, as you may not know, the name itself is short for "Taxed Enough Already".
The authors, Mark Meckler and Jenny Beth Martin, have been credited with bringing together like minded people who are sick and tired of being sick and tired of a government dominated by corporate interests; where the working class takes it on the chin, to be polite, time and again. It got its start because of greedy financial institutions who made poor business decisions were deemed "to big to fail" were bailed out by struggling taxpayers while the average homeowners and owners of small businesses were left to drown; because the government refuses to take responsibility for its spending or it taxing, leaving our children and grandchildren in debt; because the government has exceeded it authorty under the Constitution and now reaches into every business, office, and home in America; where are very lives are monitored; and because those who are to represent the People now seek to become our masters.
Meckler and Martin came together with hundreds at first, and then thousands to start a movement which has the powers that be on Wallstreet, E Street, and Washington DC quaking in their Guchy loafers. While many among the status quo are hoping the Tea Party's best days are behind, it seems only to have paused for a moment to gather its breath before charging again.
If you want to know about the Tea Party---the real Tea Party---this is the book for you. It will take you into the mindset which created one of the most successful mass movements in American history. It will tell you exactly what the Tea Party is and is not. And most importantly, "Tea Party Patriots" will tell you what they believe; their goals; and how they plan on taking America back. At 210 pages, this is a straight forward and easy to read book. Whether you like them, hate them, or just want to know the truth behind the Tea Party, this is the book for you.
