Tea Sub - Submarine Tea InfuserThis Tea Sub Infuser makes the ideal gift for anyone who loves using loose tea! In a town, where I was born, there lived a man who sailed the tea, and he told me of his life, in a cup of Darjeeling...! This Yellow Submarine should be filled with loose tea or herbs, not Beatles (or beetles for that matter). Simply fill your cup or teapot with boiling water and immerse the submarine!The Yellow Submarine Tea Infuser is really effective when using a glass mug or teapot. Why not include some green tea with your gift as a special tea-themed hamper? A fabulous Birthday gift or stocking filler, the Tea Sub is a great alternative to Tea Balls and strainers.';We're all dunking our Yellow Submarine, Infuser Submarine, full of loose leaf tea, we're all dunking our...!';

I really wanted to love this, but like other reviewers, I found that it did not actually make a great cup of tea. Tea escapes from the submarine, and yet putting in a teaspoon of tea makes it expand and fill the sub, not seeming to allow enough water flow to brew the tea well. It looks adorable, but it tips over, leaks tea leaves, and somehow the tea is still weak.

In terms of the submarine not tipping over, hanging it from something above rather than hooking the chain over the side seems to help, but with all that I just reach for my other more practical, less cute infuser.

Super-cute, but not for all tea leaves. I learned that the hard way with Thai tea, which I had bugged my boyfriend into sending me. It was also difficult to clean this thing out afterwards; that particular experience was an unmitigated disaster.

I'm sure it works better with other tea leaves which aren't ground so small, but those other teas that I drink already come in their own teabags.

There are good and bad things about this little tea infuser.

Pros:
-Really cute and cool (I mean, obviously)
-Is attached by a chain so you can lower it so it's however long you need it to be
-It has a little piece that connects the cap to the bottom of the sub so you don't lose your cap

Cons:
-A bit flimsy
-Lid doesn't stay on extremely well but works okay
-Doesn't steep your tea very well (Silicone Tea Infusers seem to all have this problem though; I own like 5 different ones now)
-Only stays submerged if you squeeze the air out of it under your water... (Squeeze VERY carefully or the lid will pop off)

Overall, this guy will work, but expect some weak flavored tea. I would really dislike this little guy, except he's so darn cute.

P.S. - Sorry for the poor quality photo.

I find the holes on the bottom of this infuser are far too large for most loose teas. Even with some of the larger-leaf teas, I end up with a mug of dregs. I'll be switching back to my less-cute, but more functional mesh infuser.

Ah, I love my yellow submarine tea infuser. I haven't used any tea leaves so fine that I had any issues with it. I wish it had a little more ventilation? holes? Whatever you call them, because it doesn't steep quickly. You have to bob it up and down for a bit to get a good steeping. That aside, it is the CUTEST thing in the world, and you can't beat silicone which is a safe and very food safe material. The chain is long enough for most glasses and mugs as well.

Enjoy!

But, the chain is mounted on top. This makes the unit very top heavy. When you put it in a cup of water, it turns upside down and you get to view the bottom of the submarine; ruins the visual cuteness.
Practically, it works like any other infuser.

I bought this infuser because I simply adored its design when I first saw it. I used it a lot from the start and received many compliments for it. It looks good and fulfills its function.

I am, however, torn between a 3 star and 4 star review because I found the infuser has two great problems: Firstly, the holes on the sub are far too big for certain kinds of teas and you might just end up with a mess; Secondly, the sub is too lightweight and won't sink within the cups easily, thus making it difficult to actually infuse the tea.

I've used this infuser for 2 types of tea so far, with no problems. The main one I use it for is my hibiscus tea, which is basically large dried out flowers- they fit in the sub just fine, and I haven't gotten any loose particles in my cup. the sub sinks just fine, and held plenty to make a good flavored cup. The fact that it's so cute is just an extra plus :)
