Editorial Reviews

These spooky stories are frightfully fun for the whole family! The Teacher from the Black Lagoon By Mike Thaler Illustrated by Jared Lee On the first day of school, a young boy expects the worst when he discovers that his new teacher is the "monstrous" Mrs. Green. What's Under My Bed? By James Stevenson Mary Ann and Louie are convinced there is something scary under their beds - until Grandpa tells them what was under his bed when he was young. By the Light of the Halloween Moon A spying cat, a watchful witch, a hobgoblin sprite, and their scary companions plan to gobble up a young girl. But this brave girl would rather play a trick than be gobbled up as a treat. The Three Robbers By Tomi Ungerer Three robbers terrify the countryside until they meet a little orphan girl named Tiffany. How will this chance meeting change the robbers' lives?

My twins who are 4 years old love this dvd. It is indeed only slightly scary and just perfect for them. They have so much fun watching it and will discuss it and make up stories including the charters in the dvd when it is over. This is wonderful for their imagination. They go on binges and will want to watch this over and over for maybe 3 days in a row then forget it for two or three weeks then want to watch it again for 3 days in a row.

I used this video with my Kindergarten students as an introduction to some of the staff they would meet at school. We had fun talking about what the characters thought someone would be like and then finding out what they were really like. I bought this one for The Librarian from the Black Lagoon but the kids also enjoyed the story about the PE teacher. They caught most of the jokes. Each episode is short which allowed me to show and talk about 2 of them with each 25 minute class.

The stories are slightly scarey. Nothing actually bad happens to any of the characters. There are some creepy images (eg, fence and beds made out of bones), but good always prevails. Will be especially loved around Halloween.

We have most of these DVDs - it's a great series. The narrator reads as the words are displayed on the screen with the animation.
