About the authors

My mom majored in journalism (and word smithing) and my sister was an editor at Simon and Schuster ... and I became a dog trainer. But I guess genes will out. I started writing a weekly "doggy" newspaper column, then co-authored two dog training books before "crossing over" to "clicker" training. In addition to writing, I own All Dogs Gym (www.alldogsgym.com), teach at All Dogs Academy and share my experience and knowledge in workshops and seminars (where I learn a lot, too). Working with dogs and owners is both my vocation and my avocation. The greatest gift is to not only love your work, but to work at what you love. I have both.

Having a fundamental background in basic training is a must, and having titled your own dog prior to training a dog class is also an asset. The book addresses the instructors responsibilities, what they are supposed to do and see, how to correct student/K9 mistakes while keeping a positive mentality/atmosphere through the class.
If your on the fence about teaching K9 classes, this book will give you an excellent overview what to expect, how to be an open minded instructor, and address certain K9/student issues that arise during your class.
If you are interested in teaching dog classes, this is an excellent book to prepare you to tackle the job. Shadowing an instructor is also a huge asset, prior to taking on a class of your own.
Dr. Volhard & Ms. Fisher provide great insight on the task of preparing you for being a successful dog trainer.
Good Luck and have fun.
