Teachings of the Doctrine of Eternal Lives speaks in a language that will not necessarily ring with a common note of familiarity to most modern inquirers, though prior generations of Latter-day Saints would have heard these words with greater frequency, and our earliest pioneer fore-bearers would have been intimately acquainted with the teachings of these doctrines as espoused by that generation of apostles and prophets. Our modern Mormon compendium lacks a great deal of the initial restorative and declarative truths founded and established in the early years of the Restoration. Though lost from contemporary Mormon erudition, these greater salvational doctrines are collected from scripture and teachings of the earlier Restoration prophets and presented here to the reader, as a view into the world which the first adherents of Mormonism embraced with fervor and alacrity. Not insignificantly, as astute an observer as Hugh Nibley noted and taught these wondrous doctrines often through his illustrious career. His observations (among others) too are presented to the reader as an additional modern witness to the defining doctrines of the Latter-day Restoration. This book contains some things to consider as they originally appeared in their own words, from the scriptures, and teachings and writings of the Prophets, Apostles, and LDS Scholars. Why Anonymously written?: "When asked why I published this book anonymously, the answer is very simple. These sacred things were transmitted by God to His Prophets and Apostles through the gift and power of revelation, and they are a gift from God to man. The prophets and apostles in turn shared their deepest knowing, testimonies, and insights regarding the signal and salient points of salvational truth, which God had revealed to them. I love this book it brings tears to my eyes that someone has put this together. I still wonder why the LDS community will not go outside of LDS information for truth even after all that has been said on going into all the world and getting all the truth and bringing it back to Zion. I have studied The Gita ( Gandhi's favorite book of scripture ) for years and nothing has helped me understand the Saviors teaching more than studying The Gita. It's sad to me that we will not read a 4000 year old book about the Indians in India, but we want the world to read our book about the Indians in America? Thank you Anonymous from the deaths of my soul for your dedication and years of hard work. I have dreamed of a book like this but didn't have the strength or courage to attempt such an exhaustive task. Every time I read your book I thank the Lord and marvel that someone actually did what so desperately need to be done. Thank you Brother Joseph and Brother Brigham for prepping us for one of the most misunderstood principles of the gospel and the most merciful and beautiful concepts you will ever understand. By the way C.S. Lewis was teaching the same concept in his Chronicles of Narnia series. And Orson Scott card in his Enders Game series is also teaching the same things. I marvel that so many of the classics, so many great movies are all teaching us this incredible principal and yet we still don't see it. I have learned more from Orson Scott card that I have in 50 years of going to church. His understanding and beautiful writing skills have changed my life and my heart. I thank God for all the noble and great ones who are involved in the salvation of their brothers and sisters. What a beautiful day it will be when we realize who they are and what they have done for us.

I knew I had a rare treasure in my hands the moment I read the back cover. Even after reading only the first two pages I was blown away. This is a book that will inspire the mind as you allow the Holy Ghost to teach you, because you will need the Spirit. It is a very slow read, only because every quote and paragraph requires quite an amount of time just to ponder their meanings, but most enjoyable nontheless. The quality of the book itself is great, though I do wish I had gotten the hardcover. Very well organized. This is not a book written by a particular author, but co-authored, if you will, by the prophets, apostles, and leaders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. It is purely a book packed with quotes from various leaders and various topics which the anonymous compiler gathered over many years and after much study and review. Quotes range from Joseph Smith, to Marion G. Romney, from Brigham Young to Wilford Woodruff and many more. This book is a must for the avid seeker of heavenly knowledge and will greatly add to daily scripture study.

Remember when you read Journal of Discourses, Church History, Ehat's Word's Of Joseph, Discourses of Brigham Young, B. H. Roberts books and discourses, especially his last seven Discourses, Nibley's 20+ books, + your books from from Nibley's Book of Mormon honors class you took at the Y. And all the others over the years. Remember all of the highlights, notes, markers you filled them with? Words that strengthened your testimony, words you knew you would never forget? How would you like to have all of those quotes in one volume with no comments. Just those life changing quotes in context from General Authorities and respected scholars that fill your bookshelves, that take you hours or even days to look up when you need them.
Here they are, or as close as you will ever come in one book. This is a miracle.

What the prior reviewers fail to disclose ( probably intentionally) is the true thesis of this book. That thesis is that an integral part of the Plan of Salvation in Mormonism is the Doctrine of Eternal Lives by which the compiler of this volume means a "Mormon" variation of what might be called reincarnation. This is more accurately known as "multiple mortal probations". That is after death we may ,if we wish, return to mortality to learn the lessons we yet need to know to more fully achieve our ultimate divine potential.There is virtually no commentary or text other than quotes of generally recognized early church members or leaders. The material is arranged topically but in a manner so as to be very readable. It is edited in such a way as to clearly set forth the compiler's own conclusions even if those conclusions are never expressly articulated. I find it a valuable compilation of first hand material on an arcane subject.
