Julie has the good fortune of keeping her nephew, Jordan, while his dad is in Iraq. Jordan is on a little league team and they meet Coach Eric Gibson. Julie is asked to be Team Mom and through interacting often the bond building a relationship.
I really enjoyed Eric and Julie's story and can't wait to read Matt's story in book two.
Thanks for a enjoyable and entertaining story Delaney Cameron. I look forward to reading more of your work.
Julie and Eric meet when she brings her nephew to his first baseball practice that Eric is coaching. The conflict between them was rooted in the fact that she was the team mom and they didn't want to cause a scene by dating. Eric's backstory of being a semi-famous ball player disgraced on a reality dating show played into Julie's aversion to him at first. Over the course of the games and slowly getting to know each other, Eric and Julie start developing feelings of respect that turns to more.
It's not that the book didn't keep my interest because it did. I found myself wanting to see how things ended for Julie and Eric. I actually enjoyed most of their romance. There was just something about it that kept it from being stellar for me. Whether it was the extremely lengthy chapters (10 + epilogue) or the overly perfect people, I'm not sure.
Eric was this super understanding, patient and caring guy. He had some personal issues that plagued him throughout but he never lost his temper. Never got mad or said something hurtful when backed into a corner. I'm sure there are people like that in the real world but for ME, it didn't feel genuine to being human. I know I would've have said some nasty things to people I KNOW are avidly trying to hurt me. He just kept quiet and went about his day.
Julie was a little more believable to her character. A preschool teacher she had the demeanor to match, always speaking gently and being a sweet-natured woman. It felt a little too easy the way things just worked out for her and her nephew Jordan. His father was away in the military on scary missions and Jordan didn't act out once. He was respectable, well mannered and did as he was told. What 9 year old behaves like that? Jesus might have but I'm not sure your every-day, average child would. I did like that Julie didn't just swoon over Eric and actually thought out her reaction to him.
To me, the story was just too damn perfect. I still finished it and enjoyed it for the most part but it read more like a Disney fairy-tale than something rooted in reality. There was no conflict, no indecisiveness. Just a long courtship between two unsure people with a sugary ending. I'm not sure I'll continue with the series but if you're in the mood for something super sweet and clean, this will hit the spot.
He started coaching Little League baseball.
He found himself very attracted to the aunt of a young player. She was filling in for her brother by caring for his son when his wife let them down.
He could not believe the sweetness of love with an honest woman.
She could not believe such a gorgeous hunk could be attracted to her.
