Adam Tayler is lead guitarist for his band, SOLE REGRET, and a recovering heroin addict. He became sexually-involved with his court-appointed drug rehab counselor, Madison Fairbanks, almost a year ago. For the first time in his life eh's experiencing a deeper connection to a person, a lover. And, he's serious about Madison. He's also impulsive and still has lots of anger issues. Madison is meeting Adam in New Orleans for an extended weekend break between gigs. And he has BIG plans.
Madison has just been fired from her job--somehow her boss learned about her relationship with Adam. She jets off to meet him in New Orleans and has to deal with Adam's sexy teasing, and jealous former flames all in the first half-hour after landing. Oh, and a couple hours later she meets the groupie who joined the Sole Regret Tour 6 months pregnant with the child of, well, any one of the band members. It's a lot for Madison to accept. But, she does, because her heart is set on Adam, and he seems totally into her, as well.
As the weekend plays out, however, Madison is approached by a man from her flight so many times he seems to be stalking her. And, her and Adam's sexy scene he had all scoped out in a private sex club turns out to be a HUGE, uh...clusterf@ck is probably the best term to describe it.
Impetuous Adam does venture into a big relationship step, one Madison hadn't seen coming and she knows she's not ready, but she can't figure out why. She loves Adam, has loved him for a long time. A brief pause allows both Adam and Madison to examine what they each want in life--and if they are strong enough to fight for their heart's desire.
In true Cunning form there's a whole lot of sexy, but it didn't go down like I had expected. At. All. These characters grow in totally different ways in this book, and I have to say I'm pleasantly surprised. Madison seems to outgrow some of her insecurity and stands up for herself several times, against Adam, against her stalker, and against her family. She's become a stronger woman, and I like that. Adam was the member of SOLE REGRET I liked the least, and I was REALLY happy to find out more about him, and the sincerity of his feelings for Madison. There are plenty of run-ins with the rest of the band members, and their assorted gals, but the camaraderie Adam lacked in previous books is present here. He has regained the trust of his dearest friends, and the love of a good woman. It was a very satisfying read.
I love this series and had no clue that I had somehow missed this book until I saw that book eight was already out. One Night With Sole Regret is quickly turning into something more as the guys fall in love but none of them have yet to settle down. They each still have their little hang-ups that’s holding them back. Will Adam be the first one to take the leap of faith? I will tell you that there is a scene in a club dungeon made me uncomfortable and I wasn’t really happy with the way that Adam handled it at first either. You don’t take someone to a place like, tell them what happens in there stays in there but then get mad because of what they do.
Like some of the other books, this book takes during the same time frame as book 6 and then moves on a little. I’m happy that book 8 is already out so that I can start reading that one as soon. I have to get caught up on my free publishers books first though. I guess I had better read fast
