Melting in CD holder?!?

Does not hold up well to heat and CD player may be damaged due to melting. I like how it holds the phone but the melting is a cause of worry. That being said take a look at the photos see and weigh the risk for yourself at least someone told you ahead of time.

This is a very clever idea. I drive a 2010 Toyota Prius, and the mount fit very well into my CD slot. The magnet works great. I used the case style on my personal phone, and the adhesive style on my work phone. Both phones hold to the mount well without any slipping or twisting.

The one issue everyone has with this mount, is the thumb screw that comes out the bottom. It tends to block some aspect of the dash on a lot of vehicles. You can see on the photo it blocks a small, yet annoying, portion of my LCD display. I thought it wouldn't be a big deal, but when using the car's Nav the screw does an excellent job of blocking the upcoming street names.

The solution to this problem is a $0.97 bolt from you local hardware store. I used a M5 (x20), but I believe the actual bolt size is a standard 10-32 (x.75). Just unscrew the thumb screw, and replace it will the bolt. Now I have a clear view of the screen and am very happy with this mount.

It would be impossible for me to write this review without using even a fraction of the sheer volume of profanity that poured from my mouth during the following experience. Therefore, I will be replacing such inappropriate language with the word “aardvark“.

Last night, on the drive home, the plastic arm that holds the phone snapped. Well, aardvark. But I figured at least I got two years of use out of it, and at that point at didn’t mind buying another. However when I removed the tension screw and went to remove the device from my cd slot, I gave it a tug, nothing budged. I pulled a little harder. Nothing. The piece of aardvarking aardvark was completely seized inside the drive. The product has soft rubber molded around the insert “clamps” to protect the inside of the drive I assume, which is aardvarking ironic as you’re about to find out. The rubber had aardvarking bonded itself to the cd slot like aardvarking glue. At this point, I’m thinking my entire head unit is already aardvarked if it doesn’t come out, and there’s no aardvarking way I’m taking my dash apart and gutting the aardvarking cd drive, so I might as well crank on it with some vice grips. I removed the plastic housing, grabbed the steel substructure, and put enough force on it that I feel like I’m about to rip the entire aardvarking head unit out of my dash, and still ardvarking nothing. Over the next two hours I pulled, tugged, and cursed this product’s existence while carefully working an xacto around the aardvarking rubber like an aardvarking surgeon, only to eventually have the steel frame from this piece of aardvark product tear free from the rubber. Now I’m left with 75% of the aardvarking rubber left inside the drive, and hanging out of the cd slot like an aardvarking roast beef sandwich. I continued to work the xacto blade around and through the rubber, pulling it out piece by piece, hoping to hope that no pieces fell inside the aardvarking cd drive. Eventually, I cut free the majority of the rubber, but some still remains bonded to the inside of my cd drive, with no aardvarking way to grab ahold of it or pull it free. At this point I’m just thinking Aardvark this product, and aardvark my life. I need an aardvarking beer.

In summary: Don’t. Aardvarking. Buy. This.

Do NOT buy this! I'm not sure why it's getting good reviews, maybe due to it being promotional item. It Lasted a little over a month and then MELTED in my CD player! I was able to pull it out but pieces were still stuck in there and now my CD player does not function properly anymore!!!! Horrible!!!

Great choice for a stock radio and reasonable phone size

Ok, my expectations weren't that high, but I love the ancient Infinity stereo in my old Jeep. I've even replaced the CD Changer hook up with an auxiliary module so that I can route my phones and ipod into the head unit. And, since it's older than dirt, no one wants to steal it. However, as much as I love the Jeep, no stick-on disk/suction cup device stays put like it does on the harder dash of our other cars, and the vent clips work but block vital cold air from the A/C. There's a great flat dash shelf on Grand Cherokees, but you probably know how Apple devices react to hot sun! I read a review online on this item, and thought at this price I can afford to take a chance on it. It works great. A heavy rubber case will really reduce the magnetic pull if you put the plate on the inside, but I recommend getting a hard-shell case and gluing the metal plate to the back. If you do this, you can also keep a magnet mount on other vehicles or wherever you want your phone to stick. Yes, I'm a nerd for function over style, but with the metal plate on the outside of the phone case it's hard to pull the phone off by hand. It also doesn't seem to wobble a bunch, even though I thought it would as I installed it. I've read reviews of the rubber melting on the tabs, so I'll have to watch that when summer comes back. ***Update***well, it broke. It just kept getting loose, and finally I took it out and noticed that the plastic clamp system didn't hold up. Dropping the rating a bit, as it did work for a while.

Holds the phone through bumps, easy on/off

At first I was skeptical about a magnet holding my phone, especially since my phone is a Nexus 6P with a Spigen case, so it's a bit on the bigger side. I have to say I'm pleasantly surprised how well the mount works. Going over speedbumps, taking sharp turns have not been a problem. Having a magnetic mount is so convenient, too! Mounting and dismounting the phone only takes one hand and it's a breeze.

What I really like about the TechMatte MagGrip is that it doesn't need to be mounted in the middle of the CD slot, I like to mount mine a little more to the left which is nice because on the older version the phone could only be mounted in the center only. Another thing I like about the newer version is that it doesn't stand out as much as the older version, the older version just felt so bulky.

Overall, this is a great product and very stable even for bigger phones. I would definitely recommend this product.

Just for reference I am using this product in a 2014 Hyundai Accent using a Samsung Galaxy S7 phone in a Spigen Rugged Armor case.

Though I would love to use a bit more wide angle in moving the magnetic base; like I wanted to make the mobile face completely to me > 45+ degrees from parallel to dashboard.
