Edit 1/12/17:Changed review a bit So I recently looked for a new turntable. My last one was discontinued and the needle (couldn't find a new one) was worn causing it to skip around on a new vinyl I got (more on that later) . I looked around and saw this one was on a bunch of lists for top turntables. I eventually got this record player a few days after I ordered and I'm going to break down the review into a few sections so bear with me (I'm also probably going to be the most detailed review here but who knows) Box opening: I got the box and opened it. There was a lot of brown paper keeping the player from being damaged. It came in a box the width of my bed! All for a small box!! The packaging from the Amazon facility was perfect! Unboxing: Now unboxing this player is like playing the Atari game breakout. You have to open the plastic wrap, open the box, take the styrofoam off both ends of the player, etc. Also unboxing the platter, dust cover and the felt mat was a step to do also. Setup: So...this step was kinda weird. The player requires you to put the platter on and set up the belt. Not a big deal. I thought it was fun! Like playing with Legos like a kid (if only there was a lego record player lol) I also hooked up a speaker and turned on the pre amp from the line switch Operation: So remember I said I had a new vinyl that skipped on my old player? No problem here! I immediately placed my copy of Metallica's Hardwired (by the way, standard and deluxe versions are both 180g vinyl and they are heavy!) and let the record player automatically queue the first song. I was scared that I damaged the vinyl from trying to get it playing on my old player. When the needle went in the first groove, I was nervous. But everything was fine after the song played. And the pre amp blew my mind!! Hardwired sounded awesome! I eventually played some older vinyls of my collection including Guns N' Roses' Appetite for Destruction. The opening riff of Sweet Child O' Mine sounded great! Opinion: For $130, this was amazingly good! It played all my vinyl with no problems. Everything is perfect with the player and I hope it continues to stay that way. My old player was good but eventually started to die down. And the player before my last one....let's not mention their name *Ahem Crosley* But Audio Technica has won me over with their AT-LP60! Notes: Now some reviews here were 3 start or lower. People have their opinions and sometimes a unit can be defective. But this player was great and I did lots of research on it before ordering. If you want a record player and do not have money for the better high end ones, get this player. It is a great player with good sound whether you listen to rock or metal bands like Metallica and GN'R (that pairing didn't go so well back in 1992 lol) maybe you listen to artists from now, or that crate of vinyls in your parents or grandparents basements. This player was worth the money, and I hope you think the same.

I really can't stress enough how happy I am with this turntable. I bought it as a replacement for an old Sony PS-LX47P that came as part of the 1991 LBT-D105 Compact Hi-Fi Stereo System. Before purchasing I made sure that this phonograph had all the features I needed: it has a built-in SWITCHABLE phono pre-amp, so with the switch set to the PHONO position, it is able to plug directly into the phono Jack on the stereo. It features convenient fully automatic operation, which is actually an improvement over the original Sony player which lacked a "start" button, requirimg manual stylus placement. Third, and perhaps unimportant to some but very pertinent to me, were the physical dimensions of the unit. I was worried that it wouldn't fit properly atop my Sony receiver, which measures 14" wide by only 12" deep. Well, my friends, all my fears were baseless. The little feet on the bottom stand somewhat inward-set from the actual rear of the unit, meaning that it can sit with great stability on top of my system. Indeed, the dimensions match the old record player almost exactly. It is a PERFECT fit for my system. The setup was incredibly easy. And let me tell you, I might not be Leonard Bernstein or anything, but I know good sound quality when I hear it, and this thing sounds GREAT! Without looking at my stereo, I would be hard-pressed to differentiate between a vinyl record and a CD, that's how excellent records sound on this. I'm so happy with it. Provided it maintains its heretofore perfect operational record, I will easily be counting this appliance as one of my most favorite music listening investments of all time. Easily five stars.

UPDATE 1/13/2021: I have now been rocking this turntable since the end of May 2020, so it's safe to say it's helped to get me through some seriously lousy times, including some periods of unemployment during which I was very happy to have it. Now, it seems that the deck had been playing records slightly too fast for a while, possibly even since I got it. It was spinning them at 34.5rpm instead of 33.33 like it's supposed to. I detected the issue by ear and then confirmed it with an RPM checker app. Then, I had to jam a jeweler's screwdriver through a piece of felt on the bottom of the turntable, and turn a tiny screw counterclockwise to reduce the motor turn speed. If this seems difficult, oh boy, it really is. It took a good 15 tries and some dumb luck, but I eventually got it back to almost exactly 33.33. I hope it stays there. For this ordeal, I don't love my turntable any less. But, I thought it necessary to inform potential buyers of this motor speed business, which I understand is a common issue with this model of Audio-Technica turntable.

Selected this TT after doing some research on entry level models. It was delivered after lots of delays and guess what? It was set for 115V, not applicable to India!! Neither the seller had mentioned it, nor did anybody have the courtesy to enclose a suitable step-down transformer / adapter with the unit, as is normally done in such cases.

The TT lay untested for a week, when I made hectic efforts to procure the adapter, again from Amazon. It was finally tested, but to be honest, I did not feel any thrill or joy when the songs played. The TT has no indicator lamp, no power switch, is very fragile and to be honest, the quality of output is way below the output of the same songs I have on mp3. Considering that mp3 is a lossy data compression method, this observation is not flattering. I will give the benefit of doubt that my records are old... but all in all, the overall experience has not been exhilarating at all.

Post Script: Later I discovered that this turntable, together with comparable models from other companies like Denon, Panasonic, Sony etc are all sourced from the same Chinese OEM called Hanpin. Their internals are all the same, with minor modifications of the exterior. What a let down!!
