I have been a professional storyteller for twenty-six years, and even I found nuggets that I am adding to my warm-up routines and performance skills. Pure Gold!
For instance, in chapter 3, the section on Achieving Proper Posture helped me adjust the way I stand on stage so that I don’t have to worry about losing my balance (a real concern as my body gets closer to its golden years). Also, the section on Relaxation provided excellent relaxation exercises (as simple as thrusting your tongue out of your mouth repeatedly) that I have started using, and I can verify their effectiveness.
Leeny encourages readers to do the proper research, invest time in rehearsals, and get and pay attention to feedback, areas that are often slighted in today’s busy world. Leeny’s approach to becoming a Master Story Performer ™ begins with the three C’s Approach to Professionalism. You can find out what those three C’s are in chapter 8, Pathways to the Main Stage.
There is something in this book for everyone who wants to rule the stage, from beginners who want to learn to command the stage, to professionals who seek to sharpen rusty skills. This book should be in every storyteller’s library.
