Turns out I was wrong.
The product is great. It's very solid, slides with some resistance, but it's not too difficult. And being stainless, I assume it's not going to rust out on me. It's also much stronger than Eton's stock antenna.
However, the diameter of the base is 6mm when I needed 5. Or is it 7mm when I needed 6?
I don't know... because another fine feature of this antenna is that the brass contact at the base is rough-hewn at the edges, so I just jammed it in there and used it as a drill to alter the plastic hole in my radio. The brass edges chewed easily through the plastic, enlarging the existing hole to exactly the right size to accommodate this antenna.
So now it fits fine!
Also, when it was time to screw it in place with the connecting wire, that brass connecter worked perfectly with the existing hardware, I believe that is a truly standard size.
So 5 stars for the antenna itself...
minus one star for Tecsun posting this Amazon listing without mentioning the diameter of their antenna.
note added in review: It appears that this antenna has a 6mm base diameter. If you want to know if it fits your radio, maybe just measure the base diameter of your existing antenna. Or the hole it needs to fit into.
Update 11-30-2023:
I was wrong. It fits the PL-680 perfectly if you just take a second and line it up correctly. I’m sometimes too thick for my own good. Definitely improves reception compared to the stock aluminum antenna. I would buy this again for the very same radio.
5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
What you have to do is disconnect both antennas (on the Eton and on the replacement) at the swivel joint (not from the radio itself but at the base of the main antenna body) by removing the screw that keeps it together but do it over a table or such as to not loose the two pivot washers. Once this is done slide the new one in between the two tabs/ears and then carefully place the washers to either side between the base of the antenna and the ears off the radio. I then used a very small eyeglass screwdriver to center the washers in the screw hole. Once centered, replace the original screw from the radio antenna and snug it up.
This replacement definitely feels sturdier than the original and adds an almost ridiculous amount of antenna to the Traveler III.
Note: it is longer when folded and will no longer snap into the antenna retainer on the back of the radio and also will not allow the bag the radio comes with to shut with the radio placed inside. Overall antenna length when closed and folded went from 4 1/2" to 6 3/4".
As for reception, I have seen improvements over the Am and FM bands but need to do further testing on SW and LW.
