This album is Teddy Pendergrass at his absolute best. Time cannot dull the sultriness of this chronicle of a successful night of seduction and romance. The songs showcase his persuasiveness, masculinity, and power with a firm silkiness that has never been matched. Mesmerizing in its yearning, with a rich appreciation of women, it is simply the lovejones album of the decade.

Even though it's well known in the musical world,I am not sure if a lot of people realize Teddy Pendergrass started out at PIR as a drummer before becomming part of the group that made him famous,Harold Melvin & The Bluenotes. On the other hand Teddy had that special, often unspoken quality that a lot of soul and funk's most vital and significant performers had. Actually he was very much chasing after more mainstream pop aspirations. Fact of the matter was,he was a soul man in every respect of the word-with a vocal style drawn completely from the santified church. As the 70's drew to a close he was at the top of his game. The ladies flocked all over the sex symbol even if he sang the phone book. But the men appreciated the fact he never did;that his level of confidence, thoughtfullness and dignity was so high that he just plain made himself and everyone nearby look good just for being there. This was the environment in which this album came out.

For this particular occasion Teddy is deviding the album into a slow half to start out things and a faster half to close it. The idea seems to be to work the listener into a wild revelry by the time he's done. "Come Go With Me" and of course "Turn Out The Lights" showcase this mans wonderul way around a ballad. Gamble & Huff produced these,as usual, with all the creamy elegence of a chocolate mouse with Teddy's tough, powerful voice providing every bit more power and color they could handle. On "All I Need Is Now" a drum machine is added for a nice touch of puncuation. The fast songs start out with "If You Know Like I Know",one of the most powerful slices of funk Teddy ever dished up,with the heaviest punchy bassline and orchestration.

Songs such as "Come Go With Me" and "Turn Off The Lights" helped make Teddy Pendergrass the most popular and best-loved male soul singer of the late 1970s and this 1979 release forever cemented his status as one of the genre's best. The disco numbers don't fit very well here, though.

By the time this great album came out, Teddy could not be contained. You can tell, because the first side of the album was definitely geared toward women as an audience. Gamble & Huff knew what they were doing. Teddy had what we called back in the days,"IT", and every guy wanted to be like him. The second side had the up tempo songs, but they were equally powerful. Teddy did it again!!!

At this time, Teddy P was on a hot streak and everything he touched was pure cream. Golden was the era of rich love songs from a sensous baritone... Every song was a diamond hit to me....
