*I've said it in my other reviews of the Turtles, but I love the way Playmates has designed these guys. Not only is the style a cool blending of various comic appearances, but every turtle is 100% different. There are no shared parts between these guys: Each turtle has their own skin texture, musculature, and height. Donatello appears much taller and thinner than the turtles. His neck looks a bit longer, too. His facial expression is very determined and focused. He looks great next to his brothers!
*While all of the non Turtle figures in this line have suffered from a lack of articulation, the Turtles have excelled. Donatello is well articulated to take on a variety of poses.Read more ›
Donatello is at least a head taller than Mikey, and has a much longer and leaner build. His skin tone isn't my favorite for him - I'm used to seeing him with a more olive skin tone as opposed to this avocado color. It isn't bad, but just different. The articulation is pretty good, and Donnie can take a good variety of stances. His carapace is made of a soft bendy plastic - this can be seen as both a weakness and a strength, as this allows for more movement of the legs, however its so flexible that I can imagine it being accidentally ripped off by a kid. The belt material is also soft plastic. One thing parents should be aware of is that the heads of these turtles, while highly posable, can easily pop off. Thankfully, they pop back on just as easily.
All in all, for a long time Turtle fan, I'm pretty happy with this design of Donnie. It's a better sculp than the 2003 blocky version of the Turtles, it gives each turtle their on unique physical attributes, and hey - you gotta love a Turtle with both brains and brawn. Highly recommended!
My son enjoys playing with these, so that is great, but there are better ones out there that will make the "big kids" happy like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Classic Collection Raphael.
