Talk about unpolished. Comparing the graphics of this game to another comic book-based fighting was that was also just released makes this look just sad. Then they are using the FMV sequences in the game from Tekken 4 and 5! This game is poorly done. It looks bad. The gameplay is rough and the load screens take way too much time. Also, the load screen backgrounds slow down to a couple frames per second.
The only reason I'm giving it two stars is because the fighting is decent. About as good as Tekken 6.
But my recommendation is to NOT BUY THIS GAME!!
I genuinely wish I could get my money back.
The Tekken series is in my top 5 gaming favorites of all time. Done them all. So I was really excited about seeing this coming out and pre-ordered it.
There have to be other people out there like me that really don't care much about the story involved with Tekken games. I just liked playing the characters, unlocking their ending movies, playing some of the side game options, and in general this series has always been a good game to fall back on just when I feel like playing a fighting game. I don't like most other fighting games.
Some of the reasons for my lower rating include this. Initially the game is abducted by the story of two of the characters (depicted on the cover) that I never play. The story/fighting about them wasn't exciting. I did learn some stuff about the characters but I really didn't care. 14 episodes later I had a number of "character stories" unlocked. That's the only way you can unlock the character movies for your favorite characters. Overall I'd say this entire game is abducted by the two characters (I refer to them like that so I don't misspell their names) depicted on the cover. Bummer. Also in my opinion nothing jumped out as far as graphics or music that really made me think "oh wow, that is better or amazing". Plenty of the other earlier games have this good of graphics and again, in my opinion better side games. I write this review without finishing the the entire game yet just to give some perspective to folks thinking about buying it early.
This game isn't a bust. Just not what I expected or would have hoped for. Moves are the same. Had no problems completing my regular combos, etc., for characters I'm familiar with. I do really like how they blended in the fighting with the story. That's really cool - even for the character ending movies. I haven't played some of the other side games but will. They do look interesting and fun.
One personal rant - I think Tekken took an irritating step back several games ago when the introduced "shooting stuff". One of the reason's I always liked Tekken fighting games was because of the lack of irritating, b.s. moves that certain characters have to "shoot" stuff for various attacks. Give me a break. Tekken's strong suit was being able to have face to face fighting with no stupid, lame "cheater" attacks where your friends or online noob's could sit there and plink at you from half way across the screen. Unfortunately Tekken has really expanded on this loser move aspect in this episode. If you are like me this will be evident when completing the post 14 story line episodes. There really should be an option to turn that junk off.
Overall I'd say if you are a super die hard Tekken fan I'd wait until the price drops or you can buy used versions. Some aspects of this game like I mentioned above make me believe there will be a plethora of these you can pick up used from various vendors. Get the game. Just wait for a bit. I write this review because usually after playing a new Tekken game I'm excited and happy for a few days. I played through the 14 story episodes and some other missions last night and finally turned off the game disgusted. First time ever to happen to me with a Tekken series game.

Ironically I was trying to get my PS1 compatible with my Pioneer home entertainment system...different story. But I plugged in Tekken 1 and 2 finally and played them. Tekken 2 beach ball game...wow. Graphics were not great obviously but wow. I just wanted to remember what that was about and...45 minutes later I realized I was having a ton of fun!. The pseudo "streets of rage" side mission they had? It was awesome in all it's horrible graphics! I forgot about the graphics and had buckets of fun playing the game. This is the kind of side games they need to have with a new version like this. Now that I've played more the side missions in this new release they are very...not interesting or original. And - as other folks have pointed out - where's the other characters we've all become accustomed to? For anyone avoiding spoilers skip this - but as an example during one of the character stories (I got the King movie and explained in the intro) Armor King and Marduk were "injured" and couldn't compete. So King completed in their place. Lazy. They should have added those characters along with the others that were missing. I mean, honestly folks - game systems now shouldn't hinder adding this extra content! Add those characters that individual players have come to love! You shouldn't have to be a Kazuya and Heihachi character fan to get the full enjoyment out of this game.
My overall review overview is that this was a very lazy release. The system has the capabilities. They should have released all the characters we've become used to and come up with better side missions than the cheesy stuff that was released.
