The next time your child asks you for a dog, you'll want to say yes. Because unlike real puppies, the Tekno robotic puppy isn't a lot of work -- he's just a lot of fun. He walks forward, backward, right, left, and expresses emotions through color-changing eyes and puppy whimpers. Just like any young pup, Tekno is perfectly content to chomp on his bone and play fetch with his ball. With the included wireless translator, you'll always know exactly what this pooch is thinking and eventually he says several English phrases. He also impresses his audience with a wide selection of tricks, such as dance, speak, sing, and more. Children ages three through eight will be delighted as they learn how to program and work this amazing robotic toy.

Return of the Robot Dog
Everyone's favorite robotic pet is back with a new design and updated software features. Improved walking animation gives Tekno smooth, realistic movement and magnetic sensors allow him to perform advanced actions. For instance, Tekno loves to be scratched behind the ears or patted on the head. He reacts to sound, sight, and touch, and obeys several radio-controlled commands. Behaviors are launched by pressing the sensors on his head, neck, nose, and side. Children can't resist his floppy ears, wagging tail, and light-up puppy dog eyes. And should you decide Tekno needs an animal companion, he interacts with other robotic puppies. (A small warning: this toy is packaged tightly, so a small screwdriver may be necessary to remove it from the box.) Tekno measures 13-by-10 inches and requires four AA batteries and three AG13 batteries (not included).

House-training Tekno
When you bring this puppy home, he is programmed to act like a typical eight-week old puppy. As a great toy to teach children about responsibility, he knows how long it's been since he has been fed and he is quick to remind his owner when he needs playtime. This dog's internal clock wakes him up in the morning and he can also wake up your child with an alarm. Light level sensors let Tekno know when its time to sleep and he snores like a real dog. And like most real dogs, this high-tech pet gets smarter as he ages, and soon he will be singing and performing card tricks on command.

did a lot of research with the two different robotic dog and even thought the robo dog does many more tricks I have a 4 year old and a 2 year old and the robo dog looked like it could break easily and reviews stated that there was a problem in the back leg. At x-mass we bought both dogs and decided to keep Tekno even thought he did not do as many tricks.

Pros:

Tekno is sturdy and can take a beating :)

For young children under 5 Tekno is a great start on teaching responsibility.

His remote is easy to use and tekno is easy to take care of. I have not had the trouble with things not working although ours has not found a corner and gone to sleep we turn it off at night.

So far he does the tricks that are said he will do (he gets fleas a lot though and you have to give him a bath daily) and it is cute how excited my children get when we get home and as soon as tekno hears us he is walking/barking in our direction and wagging his tail in excitement.

The kids love him and love to pet him. My son said that it is a lot of hard work taking car of a puppy and until he is ready tekno will due (age 4)

Cons-

He barks and whines like a true 8 week old puppy and will not grow from that into an adult. SO if you are a stay home mom all day long the barking can get a little unnerving ( I tend to ignore and it does not bother me but my mother came over and said " Yup that is just like a yippee toy poodle." which she hates.)

on the commercial you see the kid throwing the ball and tekno walking after it, it does not get its own ball. You have to hold it up to the mouth and then let go a couple of times. Not as much fun as a real puppy even the kids wished it was able to play more with them.

We purchased this for our four year old son after reading favorable reviews on another shopping site.

What a disappointment. Tekno doesn't do half the things promised on the packaging. We've replaced the batteries, followed the instructions to a T, and tried their customer service line (which always seems to be a recording saying "All representatives are busy, please try again later." no matter when you call).

So... customer service is non-existent AND you can't return him to the store. It says right in the instruction booklet, "This product cannot be returned for a refund after it has been unpacked and used." How do you know it doesn't work until you unpack and try it????

In short, save your money. This one is a real loser.

My 6 year old daugher asked for Tekno puppy for Christmas. I told her no, as I didn't think she would be responsible enough for an expensive toy like Tekno. Then she pulled the Santa card on me and I was stuck. Since she is a complete animal nut, and we can't have a dog right now, I decided that Santa would oblige her and get it for her.

Of course they were sold out and hard to find. I finally found one that was spotted like a dalmation. We got it, and both hubby and I anxiously waited for Christmas to see the look on her face!!

Christmas morning she is of course ecstatic. It took my poor husband close to an hour to get the thing out of the box. I kept telling him "Honey, that kind of language shouldn't be used on Christmas" while ear muffing the kids. Finally he took it out to his garage so he could take it apart and curse at will without little ears around.

Finally he gets it out, and at first it's pretty cool, his eyes light, he whines, he pants, he wiggles,(as best as a plastic dog can) we're all enchanted, especially my daughter, that is until she tries to throw the ball and get Tekno to chase it. The commercial makes it seem like the dog will fetch the ball (apparantly this was the big selling point for my child) and he doesn't. Tekno got not so fun right after that.

We noticed that Tekno doesn't walk so great. So, we figure its the carpet and put him on the tile. Nope. He just sucks at walking. We made him do his little tricks, and we could not get him to stop a lot of the times. The sensors don't work well. I finally got so frustrated with the music he was dancing to (he cycled through three songs I think) I slammed him down. (oops) He shut up though.

Of course, I was righ and my daughter lost the remote the first day.

For the first week, a few of the features worked. It did not do much of what the advertising claimed. Function declined rapidly, so we tried all new batteries. New batteries did not help. Within a month, it did nothing but make a small barking noise when you flipped the on switch. It was a complete disappointment.

This toy does not work at all. None of the feature work well. We put in brand new batteries in both the toy and the remote, and it did not improve its performance. This toy has sat on the hearth ever since Christmas, almost completely unused by my 5-year-old. Unfortunately, we are unable to return it to Amazon as we threw away the packaging, and the only response we get from Amazon is a form-type email that we cannot respond to.
